    maninaskirt,

Fear not your not alone! I quite often wear one myself. I commute Stirling-->Haymarket daily followed by a trot into work. Like you I have found that no one gives a monkeys, its just clothes after all. Particularly comfortable in the summer months!

I cycle at the other end of my commute, about 4 miles from home to Stirling station. Currently trying to get my workplace to support the Bike To Work scheme, but having no joy! I'm afraid the commute by bike from Stirling each day would be too far!

    Cheers

I had the song "men in tights" in my head as I rode to work this morning.

    Hello AMIAS!

A kindred spirit! I work near Haymarket as well and get the bike or bus in (also occasionally the car if I need it during the day), so our paths might cross sometime! How will we recognize each other? - Oh yes, of course - silly me!

Cycling from Stirling is a bit of a hike unless you are in training for Le Tour. For me it is around 9 miles from Balerno (SW edge of Edinburgh) Ok on the way in but mainly uphill on the way back.

Is it like cycling, you need a certain number before it becomes safer/normal?!?

    VIVE LA REVOLUTION!

Had my denim mini-skirt on today walking to work from Ravelston to the West End and back on Monday and Tuesday - also today but just walking back to Ravelston wearing it.

No adverse comments or even a "spotted" - quite a few bikes passed me as well!

I've been absent from this site for a while - as I have been working in Glasgow full time but more recently part time (3 daye there) and the other two days in Edinburgh office. My previous employment folded necessitating a change of employment.

Since the last time, I am still wearing skirts :-) but have not had much opportunity for cycling :-(

It seems that there are (gradually) getting a few more skirted men out there - and I have met a number of them too. One meeting in Edinburgh had 4 skirted men (and the wife of one of them) and we had a great time just chetting.

There is also a new company in America who are striving to get a new "Unisex" skirt on the market - see link below. I have already ordered one for whan it does take off:-

Fingers crossed that it does take-off

Looks great, roomy enough for cycling and though they don't really mention it, solid enough to survive a gusty day in Edinburgh. And pockets, yes!

Well as an update, the Unisex skirt company now has enough orders to stsrt production - and mine has been confirmed should arrive November sometime. It ia initially available in black and khaki - mine is black.

I could give it a bike test when Iit arrives and report again. And as you say Min, it does have deep quite pockets! :-)

This may sound silly as I'm non skirt wearing, but what makes a skirt unisex?

Is there not enough shapes / colours / patterns out there already which fit the bill?

Probably the pockets ... it seems we females are deemed to carry everything we need in our handbags so we almost never get decent pockets

As you say SH, very few ladies skirts do have pockets and a small proportion of them have good deep ones. As women carry their "stuff" in handbags, men are destined to carry their "junk" in pockets. Suits were good for this but they are very limited in scope compared to the variety of clothing available to women.

I do have a few cargo skirts (khaki and beige) and some denim ones with pockets front and back which just about carries all I need. (phone, wellet, loose chang, keys etc). I also have 3 kilts - one tartan (no pockets and needs the sporran) and two Utilitikilts (one black and the other beige) both of which have good deep side pockets.

This particular one being marketed, seems to be targeted to men but is being sold for both sexes. Logical really, as women wear trousers a lot of the time nowadays (either with or without pockets)

Saw someone in the Cameron Toll shopping centre with one of these on the other weekend, but didn't know what it was called.

Make the most of it - the weather is changing back to our usual 11deg C at the weekend. Need to wear tights with your skirt! 8)

And on Utility kilts kaputnik - here is a selection from E-bay shops. I don't think they are too expensive compared to a full 8-yard. tartan one.
