Have mixed feelings about this, I think fixing the surface of many of Edinburgh's main roads and cycle routes would give more bang for any given buck - and would it really hurts to fix some of the thousands of sunken manhole covers set squarely in the bus/cycle lanes?

Am a bit non-plussed at some of the streets near me listed for treatment, East London St is cobbled in its entirety and no worse/better that its nearby ilk and don't really see any problem with Bellevue Road.

Got briefly excited when I saw Craigleith Hill on there, thinking they meant Craigleith Hill Avenue, a through route to cycles. But it seems Craigleith Hill is a cul-de-sac off Craigleith Road. Bah.

Glad to see Inverleith Terrace in line for work though.

    Marchmont Road - hurrah!

Hope it involves repainting the long worn-out red lanes.

Another cheer for Whitehouse Loan! Spoken to the Council in the past and was told it was not a priority so good news if it gets done in the next 12 months.

    Big yeah for Whitehouse Loan.

Same here as I cycle on it regularly.

Glad to see Dean Path there, too.

But there are a number of streets on there I know well that aren't so bad (e.g. Mountcastle Drive North).

It's a bit scabby at the Duddingston Road end, but it's no Kingston Avenue.

Will pot holes be fixed or merely just reclassed as inverted speed bumps? ;)

I don't drive and can't remember the distant days when I tried to learn, so assume zero knowledge here.

What is car/van/HGV braking like over terrible surfacing?

Glad to see quite a few of my regular haunts on the list, Harlaw Rd and Currie Hill amongst them

    Uberuce - regarding you question.

I personally think that the roads are a bit bumpy and annoying when driving a car but there are very few potholes that make them that dangerous.

However on a bike practically evry single road that I cycle on is getting more and more dangerous every day and the worst ones for me are these bike wheel wide splits in the road that are becoming very common.

I honestly think it's just a matter of time before a cyclist is seriously injured in Edinburgh due solely to road conditions (tram lines not included!).

I'm quite excited about all the new road surfaces we're going to see over the next couple of weeks.

Or when the Evening News article (linked at the top of the thread) said "next year" were they referring to next financial year?

Or is it more likely that some of these roads will never be resurfaced?

I see Whitehouse Loan was mentioned near top of thread - nearly a year ago.

    Still no change there then...

Moredunvale Road has been done. It was bad even for Edinburgh.

South Gyle Road, outside Gylemuir school is being done this week. There's a marvelous machine much like a tracked stegosaurus that munches up the old surface at one end and spreads the new sub-surface behind it, with a long neck extending forwards depositing the chewed-up old surface into the back of a waiting lorry.

The road was terrible, but not on above list.

The roundabout on Restalrig Road South was done, but little of the road itself.

Silverknowes Road and Silverknowes Road East haven't been done. The rear suspension spring of my car snapped in half whilst driving on Silverknowes Road a couple of months ago. Currently waiting to hear back from council about the claim.

Rutland Street is currently half-de-setted, with the uprooted (or more likely gently-scraped-up, as they rattled when you rode over them in a not-fixed-in-place way) setts being unceremoniously scooped up and dumped into a dumper truck this lunchtime. Hopefully they'll not be damaged during this process so that they can be put back down flat, though the side currently taken up is the side no-one has experienced cycling on as it's never less than ¾-full of parked cars.
