Not the Family Network

On Sunday's 'birthday ride' I was re-acquainted with the route from the end of the Roseburn Path to the Silverknowes Esplanade.

This is the first bit -

Designed in the days when free-flowing cars was 'the future'.

Clearly the luxurious roadspace could be re-imagined.

After the slightly unpleasant roundabout the road looks like this -

Resurfaced fairly recently and wide enough for wide cycle lanes (and ends at a teashop!).

Seems like an obvious (and relatively cheap) bit of the 'Family Network' - but isn't on CEC's list.

Some would say that back up to the Craigleith Y junction and you can go right instead of left, to the Red Bridge at Crewe Toll, where you can branch left down the new motorvehicle highway where the path goes under the road and heads down to West Shore Road.

Not ideal, but I have a feeling council officals see existing paths and feel this new proposition is a duplicate, even though it goes in the other direction, and spits you out onto West Shore Road, and the middle of nowhere.

Have you mentioned it? Does the council have a suggestions box?

Yes, Council understandably has been looking at 'other routes' with less on-road.

But they can't just hide all riders...

I have mentioned it. Perhaps need to mention to more people.

Looks perfect for a paint and bollards/raised rubber curb segregated cycle lane. Dead cheap, easy win. Really, how hard can it be?
