I was out for a ride yesterday evening to Cramond, Granton, Trinity and back into town, and discovered that the coastal path that leaves Silverknowes Esplanade eastwards is mostly tarmacked now. But what's going on there? The grassland area to the north of West Shore Road is completely full of caravans, cars, and big 4x4s tearing around the place. I even saw a young boy racing along in a great big Mitsubishi thing, and leaving ruts in the ground. There was a big "Jesus is Lord" tent there too. It kind of looked like the circus was in town, but without the funfair rides.
As a commuting route it could be a quite pleasant diversion, but in the failing light I think I would suggest that lone riders stick to the roads instead.
