A good chance to build a cycle route (uphill at least) not restricted by the proposed lights.

"Councillor Gavin Corbett ... said: "Reducing the Viewforth bridge road width to a single lane is definitely a step in the right direction, .... it would slow down cars which presently hurtle over the hump of the bridge down to Fountainbridge.""

So whats to stop vehicles hurtling over the bridge once its oneway? especially as drivers will know there is nothing coming in the opp direction.

@Cb excellent idea. Last thing we need is cycles put on the road and also subject to the car-slowing light system.

In theory, the pavement is ridable through the Fountain Park thingy. If this was firmed up with signs and painting a lane (there's mucho pavement) then an uphill lane connected to canal would then allow traffic-free route between canal and the path beyond the Telfer Subway.

This would leave only the bit between end of path at LIDLALDI (I forget which is which) and Russell Road beyond the viaduct to create safe route between Roseburn Path and Canal.

Think proposal is 2-way with lights.

Half wit comments out in force as per.

Sounds sensible to me, the extra traffic can divert round Morrison St and Lothian Road. There would probably have to be some extra restrictions added to Yeaman Pl to stop even more traffic diverting up there.

Mairianna Clyde, who is quoted there told MCC that she had put in a heritage lottery grant about preserving the rubber factory building. thought you might be interested.

Yes, that is the bit I don't fully understand. There are currently lights at Viewforth & Gilmore Pl and also at Viewforth and Dundee St. So where are these new lights going to be placed?? confusing.

So is it one way? with narrowing of the whole road, or just path widening on the bridge, with 2 way lights controlling traffic over the bridge? Thats going to be interesting to see. I wonder why the council don't just put a wide foot bridge over the canal for children.

A seprate bridge for footpeds that wouldn't help that the bridge is narrow and people come over the blind summit too quickly. I'm always nervous some twit will come over and rear end me whilst I'm riding down the other side.

Yes I believe that Edinburgh Printmakers want to relocate from Union Street to the old NB Rubber office building. I assumed it was going ahead once they came and replaced the wooden boarding with the steel security ones.
