Anyone else had problems with the supports attaching the Blackburn EX1 rack to the upper frame eyes snapping? Happened for the second time today for me; while the CoPilot seat and toddler were attached to the rack!

I fashioned a replacement out of aluminium myself after the first one went. Today both it and the remaining original snapped. Not at the weak point with the hole for attachment, but rather where it meets the rack...

My girl is still way below the 18kg max...

Yep. Happened to me on my EX-2 a couple of months ago.

I wrote to them about it and only after a couple of chasers did I get a response that they would pass it on to the product department. Disappointing customer service.

I was probably close to / over the weight limit, so admittedly didn't have a strong case but still. As I use it most days I had to buy a replacement EX-2 and carry on.

18kg isn't very much by the time your child grows...

My seatpost-fixings are steel and have been OK so far. I had an EX1 snap between the bow and first strut weld. After I'd been using it for a year after it ad been donated by someone who'd used it for two childrensworths of transportation.

wow. hope everyone was okay and seat incumbent not too traumatised?

We used ours a lot and everyday for years (probably overweight too) and never had this happen although blackburn on mr srd's bike is bent - but that is the main frame bit.

however the current blackburn on the tandem is attached with different, more robust looking struts.

    Ouch scary :-(
Not had a prob so far, but then my coxswean does more travelling in the trailer than on the seat.

When I had one of these seats, it had a strap that clipped round the seat post, as a failsafe in case the struts broke.

I think it was the strap that saved the day for us. I did wonder why you had the strap as well as the other fixings!

I only noticed it was a little rattly when I didn't have a passenger aboard.

The day before we'd had a bit of hard bump coming off a train which is when I think it happened.

Yup the failsafe strap saved the day; so no major dilemma. My jerry–rigged fix is substantially stronger than the original...

Blackburn so far cannae be bothered...

They are on Twitter and Facebook. Why not make coments on their page and twitter feed? Hashtags do get caught in searches.
