I've ordered a Tubus Disco from bike-discount.de but it won't fit (cowled dropouts) without modification. I think I've found an alternative that will work. Rather than attempt to send the Tubus back to Germany, I thought I'd see if anyone on CCE would like it. Will deliver for free to Edinburgh (and may even consider further afield). Price - it cost me around £62 (I had other stuff delivered) so as close to that as possible. Totally unused and as delivered to me (well, actually, one of the plastic bags has been torn open).

Before you punt it, you might be able to file the ends of the posts where the drop outs are fouled to make it fit. I had to do this to get anything to fit my Genesis.

Me too. There's not much you can't achieve with a file and a hammer.

Yes I had to make a minor modification to get mine to fit. Top tip, don't use the new squewer to fit it if possible. Instead fit ti guard mounts. It will make getting the rear wheel off much easier.

    Hi all,

Thanks for the advice - if I can't find a buyer, I may well modify - however, even if I do, it's not going to be an ideal fit. I've spotted the Tortec Veolcity, which I think will do the job perfectly. So, in short, still looking for a buyer for this rack...

Surely there's no need to file down the hoods over the dropouts, is it not possible to marginally spread the rack legs (it's steel after all) and install a spacer (such as the ones you get for central pivot/dual pivot caliper brakes) so that the legs of the rack can go widers than the dropouts?

Hey Kaputnik - I wouldn't modify the bike - I'd modify the carrier. I haven't yet, so it's still in mint condition...

Ditto, it wasn't the hoods but the rack I modified. Mine was for disk brakes and had little posts on the end of the rack to act as a permanent spacer. Thusly http://www.biketrax.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b0s79p2383

I had to grind off some material from the bottom of the posts to make it fit over the dropout hood.

Why on earth do they put these little hoods over the dropouts anyway? Surely they're always going to foul any guards, racks etc.

That is something I keep wondering to myself but I've never gotten round to asking Genesis.

I know this is a bit of a shameless bump, but no-one interested before it goes onto fleabay?

I managed to fit the Tubus Logo to a CdF frame with cowled dropouts, using a Tubus fitting kit which cost me £5.40 from Wiggle.

Apparently its for 'safety' - thats what The Bike Works told me anyway - and apparently lots of people file them off.
