What the diversion is for!
Pix from CEC.
Looking good.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.
This is going to be nice. That said, I will miss the lambs and the hills on the estate.
Oh - that looks cracking! Not a tree root in site :D
I go the Craigies road / kirkliston route and I certainly won't miss going up standingstane road of an evening, or the 20MPH winds in my face on the open part of the road!
They haven't put the chicanes in yet ;-)
Is Standingstane road much worse than the climb up to Dalmeny on the path?
In other news it appears the path on the slip road down to Ferry Toll has been swept again but still no cover on the rodding point.
Think the Standingstane road climb is a bit longer, but not by much. Much more climbing to be had by going through the estate. :)
You don't have to 'miss' the lambs and hills, just keep riding, we do,
Looks like they have finished the retaining steel this week. now they just need to get the surface in and the landscaping done and it'll be ready for 6 weeks time.
I can't find the reference but did DaveC or say he'd met a dutch couple who had ridden down the M90 to Ferrytoll? I saw a MAMIL this morning gingerly retracing his route back down the southbound admiralty onslip. I wonder if there is some issue with the signs there.
I notice there is a sign blacked out on the path with a corner opened up to show the blue cycle sign with red box and white ncn number but on the whole there are plenty of signs there, if you know what to follow. Perhaps there could be a larger SHARED USE sign for tourists? tbh I use the path so much I don't bother looking at the signs so don't know if they are inadequate or not?
The Finish riders had got lost heading south between Inverkeithing and Ferrytoll, and I suspect had gone through Dunfermline on the Route 1, and had not found there way through Rosyth properly and ended up riding from the A921 along the M90 south and had come off at Ferrytoll after riding along the left hand lane to Ferrytoll. I pointed out the Blue signs and told them to look for them on each junction and follow them to Edinburgh, where they were heading for.
Are you referring to Ferrytoll? It was the junction further north I was meaning. The cyclist had come up the motorway on ramp before noticing that he was in the wrong place.
Oh, here?
This is where the Fins claimbed to have joined and they exited at Ferrytoll.
Maybe they could do with a Motorway, No Horse Drawn Carrages etc.. sign?
That's the one The A90 south of the bridge certainly has big yellow signs to that effect but it appears the signs (and possibly the rules) don't apply to this stretch.
I noticed last night there is a sign towards the south end of the bridge advising pedestrians and cyclists to leave at the slip road ahead which seems a bit odd as they would already be on the footpath and I wondered if it meant there is no restrictions to them using the carriageway on the bridge. Although that would seem extremely far fetched.
acsimpson: "Is Standingstane road much worse than the climb up to Dalmeny on the path?"
Sorry - missed this, last week. Do you mean the path that we're currently diverted from, or the estate?
Standingstane road is (in my opinion) far steeper than both, but it's over and done with a few minutes. Unlike the estate hill which goes ooooooooooooonn and ooooooooooooonnn and ooooooooooonnn (remember I'm not as fit as you lot!).
So I do Standingstane road rather than the estate cos, although it's a pig, it's over and done with in a couple of minutes and I'm almost home :)
Apparently they're re-opening the path this Friday. :)
It certainly looks functionally complete with a nicely laid surface. I assume they are going to put some sort of cladding in place over the steel supports by the A90 but this shouldn't affect users of the path.
"
Sir/Madam,
I am pleased to announce that the upgrade of the A90 Cycleway (Section Five) at Burnshot is almost complete, and it is expected that the path will reopen to the public at around 9.30am this Friday morning (8th August). The temporary pedestrian and cycle diversion through Dalmeny Estate will also be removed at this time, and the Council wish to thank the Estate for their cooperation in allowing the diversion route to be signed through the Estate during the works.
The Burnshot slip road will also reopen to southbound traffic on Friday morning, which will enable bus services to serve the stops on the slip roads.
I would like to apologise for any inconvenience or disruption which has been caused during the works, and hope that you find the improvements to the route beneficial.
Regards,
"
Do we all have to grin like cheshire cats as we ride through the new bit?
Being quite new to the Fife-Edinburgh commute all I've ever known is the dalmeny estate diversion so i'm expecting big things!
lest we forget
Construction of the Section 2 and 3 path improvements (2.5m wide path including road barrier and anti-glare panels) are currently planned to commence in early 2015

Quite conceivable that there will be summer commuters who will not have set wheels on that cycle path for 3 years by the time the work is completed....
the way the fence had been moved last night it made it look like someone had already gone for a test ride. Was it anyone here?
I drove past last night. When I reached the (coned off) slip road I noticed a woman cycling up it. I assume she had come right through from the Dalmeny end, and somehow got around, either on the road (eek) or up the verge if there is any room to do that.
Was it anyone here?
i couldn't possibly comment
Could you comment on whether there was any evidence of the possibility of departing from the cage at the other end?
i popped along as far as the downhill bit starting, then doubled back, so can't confirm
but i'm sure you'd find a way through ok
They have been talking at work, and apparently it is the most beautiful piece of path that they have ridden on in a long time. I can't wait to ride it. :)
Had a little run along this morning. Seems completely finished. Just a few more speed bumps, warning signs, surface paint warnings, marking and lane dividers, lights, bollards and chicanes and it'll be done to Edinburgh standards ;-)
"Had a little run along this morning"
You mean all the way or a U turn in case you couldn't get out?
I didn't go round the barriers with Insto, didn't trundle down the hill past the overgrowth of the A90 section and didn't go back up onto the new bit to check it out this morning and didn't notice that it's a lovely wee stretch of tarmac with a nice wee dip at the top of the hill now. I also didn't come back out at the top near the Dalmeny estate entrance where I couldn't know it the barrier again was ajar.
Didn't take this photo rather abusing the panorama function on my phone which I'm not entirely sure will link correctly because I geniuinely can't access it from my office PC.

Link didn't work (in the spirit of your post...)
Link did work. Shiny. The fence makes it look like a motorway from the bike side too.
