I noticed it was getting a little long when taking the road route home last night. Sadly there was a contractor car parked on the path this morning so I only experienced the 10m before the fence.

Changing topic, am I imagining it or is the surface of the Scoutstoun S bend already seriously degrading after only one month of HGV activity? I dread to think what it's going to be like after a couple of winters.

On the older improved bit (i.e. at the bottom of the hill just where it meets the road) it looked to me like a railing had been run along the top of the crash barrier.

Is that new? It looked like it might help defend against cyclists hitting the supports for the barrier.

There was a small pipe on the inside of the railing before but if there's anything above the height of the crash barrier then I suspect it's new.

That's not me blending in with the tarmac in the photo that TFP didn't take.

acsimpson: "the way the fence had been moved last night it made it look like someone had already gone for a test ride. Was it anyone here?"

I was driving back last night (don't judge me! boy had an Earth Calling gig, which means I have been dropping him off Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu mornings hence the diesel-powered commute)...

...err, where was I? Oh yeah - driving North and watching with interest the state of the new path, to see this moron shaking the final (i.e. 3rd of three) fence. There was a young lady on a bike behind him and he was literally shaking the fence.
What bemuses me is why people bypass one, no two, but three fences and signs that read "NO! Honestly, you will only have to turn back..."

Still... it will all be good tomorrow (and kudos to the council for a) listening and b) delivering ahead of schedule) but I must admit to being astonished at the public's inability to comprehend perfectly clear signs.

Was 'officially' open this morning. I said "thank you" to each and every workman I passed. They all looked at me slightly bemused. It's a beautiful thing.

I took the Standing Stane Road and Burnshot Road in on the recumbent - to find the wind from the east. Head wind again!.... :O(

Sadly I was a driverist this morning so neither enjoyed a rare morning tailwind nor the new tarmac.

Aye, bemused stares was all I got in return for my friendly greeting. They seemed more puzzled than anything else by this. I know they're getting paid to do this and most probably couldn't care less, but it's still nice that these paths are being re-done. Sometimes. In some places. Gradually.

I used the path last night on the way home from Edinburgh I have to confess. The new surface is lush! And wide!

It did amuse though when I got the end at the entrance to Dalmeny Estate/Dalmeny Main St, a chap was coming the other way pointed in the direction of using the path so clearly a few of us regular commuters were impatient!

Of course it now highlights the need for the final sections to be done...bring it on!!

Looking forward to testing its wet weather performance tonight. I'm *not* one of the 'sneak preview' merchants - I bet you lot were the sort who'd sneak downstairs on Christmas morning and feel/shake all your presents coz you couldn't wait another hour or so...

O.o What kid *didn't* do that?

But yeah, what with it pouring down like that at the moment I'm glad that path is open again, would be a bit apprehensive of bombing down that hill on the estate tonight.

    Clearly. :D

Possibly? Sorry, memory of a fruit fly here. Though the during the first week of the diversion I wasn't going anywhere nearly as fast down that hill as I am now after three months. Kind of hard not to now.

Did anyone else have to work their way over the new mtb route between the golf courses?

Ah I understand now.. A lot of gravel/ shingle has been washed onto the Barnton path, presumably by the downpours. Keep an eye out for the next few days folks.

Looks nice enough, but I don't think I could ever quite bring myself to say "thanks" to Keith Brown.

It's not a trunk road so Keith "Here's some spare change I announced earlier" Brown had nothing to do with it. Leslie Hynds and Andrew Burns would be better to thank.

Hopefully the rumble strips will be all the cyclist calming measures they feel are required on it.

The Forth Bridges Festival takes place from September 4 to 13, with a full programme of events to celebrate three centuries of bridge building on the Forth, including a series of tower-top trips and a torchlight procession across the bridge on the final day of the festival.

Councillor Lesley Hinds, convenor of FETA, which operates the bridge adds: “The appointment of an artist-in-residence is a first for the Bridge Authority and forms a particularly important part of the 50th anniversary programme.

“We hope Kate’s work will encourage us all to look at the bridge from a different perspective, beyond its everyday function as a piece of transport infrastructure, or even as a great piece of engineering.

This morning there were contractors setting up at the east side of the path as it goes between the golf courses. Looks like they are doing remedial work on the drainage after the wash out last week, with stone chips all over the path. Worryingly, they were also setting up a lot of H&S barriers. Does anyone know if the path is going to be closed later today?

By the by the new improvemnts are good but the A90 section is overgrown with brables and long grass creeping out over the path; it does need attention.

@JohnS this is exactly why I logged in this lunchtime to ask this question!

They had mini diggers too so it looked like a long job.

oddly I stopped to ask a couple of workman what was going on and the conversation went something like this:

ME: "excuse me, do you know if the path will be open tonight"

WORKIE: "eh don't know mate, sorry."

ME: "is it the path that your going to be working on/at?"

WORKIE: "sorry I don't know mate. I just turn up. I don't know if we're working on the path or not."

    Jeezo...Monday morning blues maybe???

I tweeted about this last week, as did @Brideymonger. No progress then? Typical. Last time I contacted the local councillor and a team visited a day later! Perhaps time to comaplain again.

With 6 vans, barriers and a mini digger I doubt this is a days work, I suspect they are doing to lay a drainage pipe down one or both sides to avoid surface water run off. Also the fact they have pitched up on a Monday suggests that the work is substantial. Hopefully they will leave a through route, I couldn't see any 'notices' posted up which they have to do if they are closing a public route/ road.
