@scottishchris: You have to hand it to The Broughton Primary School Parent Council, this is a compelling doc: http://t.co/Xq35NZ03vK

Awesome. That is an excellent presentation on several levels.

Their unpaid, self-tutored campaign and the hundreds of hours' work which went into it culminated in a 10-minute presentation to councillors this morning

Shows what can be done - also constant research/pressure by Spokes etc.

Demonstrates the value of unpaid/volunteers, but also highlights the general imbalance between 'official' and 'objectors'.

Spokes has never had (or wanted) staff, and is therefore unusual as well as successful.

I'm just surprised that the vote came down to a majority of 1. What interests were all the 6 supporters of it really representing, when it would appear that the applicants have been rather economical with their compliance with regulations and what others refer to as the truth?

Council turning the application down may not be the end of the matter. As Greener Leith have noted, the 'Soviet' flats proposed by Barratt for the old GPO sorting office site on Brunswick Road may yet be granted permission. They have appealed the Council's decision to the Scottish Government, one of the grounds being the use of Twitter by the Cockburn Associuation during the hearing. Apparently that was unfair, at least according to their lawyer.

    That sounds a bit desperate!

@chdot, perhaps, but i thought it more noteworthy than the boring substantive grounds they also set out...

Just shows they are determined to use anything that might get their appeal granted.

The council need to sell buildings but that one is in a school playground between the primary and the nursery.

Broughton primary has a great wee swimming pool.

If they made Drummond a 3-18 school they could sell the whole site.

Anyone on here have views on 3-18 schools?
