"Driver gets Asbo during police cycling crackdown"

The most common offences were using a mobile phone while driving, cyclists failing to stop at a red light or cycling on pavements, and taxi drivers waiting by Haymarket Station outwith the designated ranks.
Alas observational evidence would suggest that the Hackney carragists are up to their old tricks as soon as the hi-viz backs are turned.

Obviously weren't doing speed checks then... I'd suggest breaking the speed limit is waaaaaay more coming than mobile phone use.

Lovely headline, falsely claiming it was a 'cycling crackdown'. What was it the EEN journo was claiming on here the other day again? ;-)

"Ninety-five drivers and 72 cyclists were spoken to by police in the first week, numbers dropped to 91 drivers and 57 cyclists in the second. "
So the number of naughty drivers hardly dropped at all, then. Quelle surprise.

"Pc Chris Harvey said: “Some people may think we handed out a relatively low number of fines""
Erm, yes. If they'd concentrated on taxis alone the could have handed out way more than that! I can't help but think they have been asked to be pretty lenient in order not to upset the motoring public too much.
When they claim "More than 300 people spoken to", do they count people like me who chatted to them (i.e. me starting a chat rather than being stopped) whilst riding beside them? It would boost their figures! ;-)
