Not sure that a namechange will make it a more attractive space!

This is not the time to do something like this. Give it a year and see if it still seems like a good idea.

PS I agree with the first poster in the EEN: "Ah, three inspirational political colossi named in the one piece: Mandela, Hinds and Milligan. Another chance for useless midgets to associate themselves with a great man".

    Really?

St Georges Place in glasgow where the South African embassy or consul or maybe just barclays bank?was situated was renamed Nelson Mandela Place in the 1980s?

Edinburgh should honour him is my own view.

"Edinburgh should honour him is my view."

I would hope there are more options than renaming that square.

Should have been done decades ago - as Glasgow showed. Although I cannot think that that lifeless charming space suits Mandela at all. How about Picardy place?

Agreed, the renaming of the barren square that never gets used much is north the best idea.

Glasgow strong links to ANC of course electing Nelson Mandela's predecessor Albert Luthuli as Rector in 1962. luthuli was not allowed out of South Africa to take up the post so they setup a scholarship for Soweto and maybe other township scholars to come to Glasgow. I shared a student house with the 1983 scholar Trevor Uhuru Mojiwadi. he was good craic.
