Have been exploring my new home town a bit and discovered a ruddy velodrome just down the road from my office!

It's just there open to the street, properly banked bends n' all. Surface is probably rough as guts, but worth giving a whirl.

that's until they finish the AvantiDrome anyway :).

    Wow, have fun!

It looks really odd to see big big expanses of green grassy sports facilities without any sign of Attractive Aspirational Apartments moving in to obliterate them. Looks like you've landed in paradise!

Mind you - move the viewpoint round to the right or left and those cycle lanes between two lanes of cars do look a bit scary

    Hehe, cool.

I could be wrong but it looks like the inside lane here is actually for car parking? Scary if not!

There's a similar one that I use at my wife's home town (with a MTB!). It has a good surface but is quite hilly with some tight bends.

Yeah, a lot of the paths here are tucked nicely into the door zone, when they're not just at the side of the road :).

It is a nice city (well, is a bit of a jumped up agricultural service town) big river and hella lot of green space make it quite a pleasant place to live. Although weirdly I've never lived inland before, so getting used to not being right up to the coast (although it's only 40km away).

This shiny new facility has opened as well, think I'll have to get a lot of practice in before then though: http://www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times/sport/9524311/Riding-high-at-new-Cambridge-velodrome

That looks great fun amir, interesting shape with the hairpin at the end.

We've also got a BMX track you'd like. It's where all the kids go to break their collarbones.
