Not sure if this should be "stuff" or "events"...

    Macdonald Cycles auction

The catalogue isn't yet available, but it may not be a single lot (as the auction website currently suggests).

Of course, I may be spoiling my chances of bargains, but I'd actually prefer them to get good prices...

Perhaps the (remaining) local bicycle shops will be the main bidders.

Viewing Tuesday, 21st January, auction on Wednesday, 22nd.

Should have probably put the date(s) in the subject...

Didn't know they'd closed. Bit sad, I found they were nice guys - I used them a couple of times when I worked at the Widows.

But I did wonder how they made a living with Wiggle on every desktop and Evans round the corner.

Sad to see bike shop going. Velo ecosse also suggested to be on the ropes?

On the other hand other shops are doing brisk business, for example smaller shops / mobile busineseses focused on repairs?

Internet shopping up 10% over the last few years, high street vacancies also up 10%.

OK, not a one-for-one replacement, but broadly comparable. As Gembo said, businesses that fulfill a role that the internet can't (e.g. Repairs) are the "future".

Well I have missed some bargains here. Despite registering (on Friday, after business hours) my account was not validated (by a member of staff) until Monday. Then there was the hurdle of having to pay a deposit by bank transfer (minimum £100) before you can place a bid, no matter what you were interested in bidding on. No chance for this to clear into their account by today, so I didn't bother.

I suppose that has restricted their market to trade buyers or those who were organised far enough in advance. A pity for me, but good deals for those who have bid.

Never mind, I did resolve at New Year not to spend money on bike gear unless absolutely necessary. Sweeney Kincaid's cumbersome procedures made keeping that reslution much easier...

The size of the lots put me off, although I've got access to a SK account...

I did look at the workshop tools, however the mechanics appear to had their own, or taken the best already, so the wall of tools no longer held much interest.

What should have been done is to organise a CCE bid for tubes or something - I'd never have used 50 inner tubes (given my penchant for patching), but 10 of us could have used 5 tubes each!

Unfortunately I was reluctant to be an organiser on this one - apologies!

I registered last night, paid my deposit by fps (the now default on my bank account) at 11.30 am this morning, which was acknowledged a couple of mins later, and bought me some things. Getting it through so fast may not have been fortunate as I'm now going to have to explain my purchases to he who earns most of the money either tonight (if I'm in an honest and open mood) or when he opens the garage and sees the extent of my purchases (if I chicken out of being honest and open). I have bought him several new pumps to soften the blow.

I registered last night and got validated this morning.

New bike day for me, with the Kona Dr Dew coming in at 1/3 rrp. Very happy with my purchase (and about £100 over the limit I told the wife I was thinking of spending, but I'll get something for my current hack which will bring the price down, surely).

Can't wait to pick it up.

@WickWocky, my bank pays by fps too, but it still seems to take a few days to be recorded in an account at another bank which is not part of the same group. Maybe you were luck and their account was at the same bank as yours? Anyway enjoy your purchases.
