"As I think they said in the sixties."
You remember?...
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.
"As I think they said in the sixties."
You remember?...
Here is a list of bike shops that have them (flyers and maybe posters).

Laidbike
Bike Station - big pile

West
Decathlon
FreeWheelin
Harts Cyclery
We still need to cover Leith Cycle, Blackhall and Eastside, BikeSmith, Velo Ecosse if anybody can drop some into there.
It would be good to know which ones are displaying posters, as most said they would, but didn't put them up at the time I/we were there.
Some cafes have them.
Heriot Watt/Edinburgh Uni have them in some locations.
RBS has them.
Still to do:
Lots of handlebar flyering
Laminated flyers/posters at workplace/college/uni bike sheds.
Flyers at non-bikey places like cafes/community centre notice boards/pubs.
We will be handing out at Red Bull Hill Chasers (help wanted !), and any Go-Bike type events between now and the day.
Oh, and if anybody spots them anywhere else, can you let us know!!
Hello,
I had a load of leaflets left from the uni roadshow. Have now distributed several to:
Bike Smith
Velo Ecosse
Bob's hairdressers (thanks cc good tip - I think he cycles in with his friendly dog)
but no posters I'm afraid,
Also Peter Smith wines in Marchmont - a poster in there and plenty of flyers - strange choice you might think but a lot of local families shop there I think and they are pro-cycling and community, and have a wine tasting on a Friday night where people mingle. He also played guitar for Fleetwood Mac.
Have a few left but they are slowly getting distributed to East Lothian schools and QMU.
chdot: "You remember?..." I can barely remember what people who remember the sixties say they remember.
I've said remember too often and it's sounding weird.
BTW if anyone's interested in the t-shirt role, I can confirm that selling them / handing them out on the day is great fun. No salesmanship required, it's mainly fending people off from trying to buy reserved t-shirts. Last year we sold out so quickly I had to give Graeme Obree my t-shirt, which means that come the cycling revolution I shall have a heroic gap in my otherwise complete collection
@algo
You mean Peter Green's in marchmont? That is a grog shop with a name same as the original guitarist in Fleetwood Mac
Oops - yes that's what I meant! Thanks gembo.... they are very nice folk in there and I think cyclists too

Finally - a map of locations where flyers can be picked up for @@POPScotland http://pedalonparliament.org/resources/#flyers let us know where we've missed #pop2014
"
Aha - looks like I have some updating to do for my map. I didn't want to list every one, just those that had reasonable amounts and were aware that they were being used as a pick-up point
So Mr SRD and I have decided to go ahead with a head count on POP3. We'll need clicker/counter type devices to do this and if memory serves, there was someone on here who thought they might have some available....four would be nice to have, two would probably be enough.
Anybody?
Not a disaster if no one has any - I'll just scour eBay.
Clicker counters are cheap, and can be reused for following years. I potentially can borrow one, or contribute to costs.
+1 on contributing to costs. Let me know if you would like me to purchase them - sending me a link to (eg) Amazon for the items in question would work.
Wow, they really are ludicrously cheap:
@mkns
A clicker/counter that only goes to 9,999 will hardly be any use for PoP3. I'm expecting the Meadows to overflow with bicycles and pedestrians.
I'll buy me four of them clickers now...
"9,999 will hardly be any use for PoP3"
Nice!
Realistically 5k would be good.
But it's an unknown unknown...
There are still plenty of people who haven't heard of PoP - 'we' are not normal!
Posters, flyers, chats with friends/colleagues, Twitter, FB, mentions in company/organisations' newsletters/intranets, (etc.)
All helps to build the momentum and encourage people to join-in.
Feeder rides will help. There may be one from KB aimed at Sciennes parents/children because they ride from there to the school once a month (except the winter ones). So could be the biggest feeder ride with maybe 100+.
"'we' are not normal!"
You're not the Chris Hill from Standard Life's Commission Team are you? That would explain a lot.
PS Happy to lead a KB feeder ride - I live just up the road, and spent ten happy years there...
Nope
Is that slanderous??
Yes please to more feeder rides! We don't even have an official Harrison Park ride yet (surely some mistake?)
Don't think this is in place yet but could it be used for a count http://m.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/transport/bike-counters-to-tally-number-of-cyclists-1-3196994
Please do blog about Pop if you blog and you're coming. I know for many of you it's its third year and perhaps feeling a bit routine but it all helps us build a sense of momentum. If you don't blog yourself, you can join HankChief in putting up a guest post on the POP site itself (or get your kids to join in).
The 'Route-full info!' page on the PoP website needs some attention.
At the top it says 26th April at 12 for 12:30 but later down the page(1. The Medows) it says that it is a 3pm start.
Also the Video says that it is a 3pm start on the 28th.
All a bit confusing!
Unfortunately, due to work commitments, I can't make it along anymore (I'm out of the country, and it's a bit awkward trying to get back for one day).
Make it a good one!
I would be happy to help with a feeder ride from Kings Buildings, seeing as I live only a block away.
Possibly best coming in via the signed route 6 on Lauder Road than the (Low) Quality Bike Corridor… but open to suggestions.
That sounds great. there is one from slightly further afield in south edin already i think.
crucial point is to use it to get awareness up - eg neighbourhoods, schools en route, etc
thanks for points above re website. will try to get website folk onto them.
video is from previous POp, not sure we can change the date...(pretty sure we asked last year and it didn;t happen then either)
@SimonS thanks for pointing that out, it should be clearer now.
Much clearer - Thanks.
Just did a bunch of flyering tonight in Edinburgh (South & centre). Came across one PoP handlebar flyer (and two very old looking Spokes newsletters). Lots of people still to spread the word to I imagine...
