we are looking for contributions from everyday people. If you keep riding through winter, that everyday person could be you.

We're keeping the competition loose this time. We simply want you to pass on your best advice on riding through the darker part of the year. For instance:

Let us know your favourite out-of-town routes: especially ones that are a short hop from one of our shops.

What do you like most about riding in autumn and/or winter?

How do you winterise your bike?

If we use your autumnal photo or winter tip we will reward you with a prize of your choice from our Revolution clothing and cycle equipment range up to the value of £25. We pay double if we publish one of your photos with your quote.

chdot, not sure that is the sort of tip they are looking for (you never know, they published my nonsense about speedo polyester swim caps and short haircuts the last time).

Here is my tip, ah no wait, I'll post it on EBC first then come back

My tip for keeping going right through the winter is to buy yourself another new bit of winter kit every time your pay packet allows. One week get another light, the next some night visibility stuff. Next time some decent waterproof socks. This way you treat yourself as a reward for your perseverance. One of the best places for such retail therapy to spin out your commitment to through the winter cycling is the Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative.

I submitted a number, including the "cover your frame in reflective tape so that it actually looks like a bike when illuminated from the side" one. Lights aren't so useful pointing forward if you're side-on to traffic.

Get some decent lights if you want to be seen. No use suggesting it to EBC as they don't sell them. Oh and it cheaper to buy in places other than EBC most of the time, they are not good value for money.

Winterising (ack!) my bike amounts to putting the knobbly tyres back on and charging up my two Vistalite batteries. In terms of photons and visibility for money, I find the Cateye EL135 hard to beat.

Winterising for me is digging out the homebrew lights and charging the bottle...

Though with the roady and mtb back on the road soon i'll need to decide what to do for lights, what ever bike i end up using more for commuting gets the big lights i suppose.

    Dear Andy,

As promised, because your pic and quote featured in our latest catalogue you win a prize.

Please therefore select any Revolution product(s) up to £50 and I will send your prize out to you. Alternatively, I could forward the prize to your local Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op shop for you to collect.

    Thanks again for your contribution.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Ged.

That's the winter gloves sorted then!
