I posted in December about an incident in which a driver attempted to intimidate myself and two riding partners as we were cycling along London Road. The police took the incident seriously, interviewing all three of us and the driver. The driver had a different story than we, although we never heard the details. Ultimately, the driver was hit with a negligent driving penalty - it typically carries a £400+ fine, I believe.
Incidentally, we learned that, subsequent to the complaint, the driver had loaned the car to a friend, who, late at night, had crashed and totalled the (nearly new) car. As the driver who had borrowed the car was not registered to insurance, the insurance refused to pay.
I would almost feel sorry for that driver, but then again their driving was a terror.
I think it is worth people being aware that the police - this was handled initially by contacting police scotland on their website, and then followed up by the 'Portobello community policing team' - are actually taking this sort of incident seriously.
