Apparantly Peebles needs a new bridge over the Tweed so lots more houses can be built to the south east.
This is fairly old news but I've just stumbled on it.

(News sources seem to like referring to it as a 2nd bridge, missing the point that Peebles already has three bridges (but only one you can drive a car across)).
Judging by the proposed location this, if done well, could neatly link the new path from Innerleithen with the old railway (and tunnel) heading out of town to the west.
