    a useful through-route. Perhaps. Still an improvement on the embarrasing, boarded-up, overgrown, urine-stained, fly-posted mess that is there now.

    Any improvement like this which encourages 'active travel' (walking!) is good.

    Surprised it's been shut as long as ten years!

    I used to use those latter set of steps as a shortcut years agoi, but there were often street drinkers spawled on them at the foot. Bit tricky stepping over them, and not a good idea with young kids in tow methinks.
