"A linked up network of paths, cycle-ways and streets dubbed "the spider" could be created in Inverness to ease travel around the city."

I wonder if this will include the new out of town Tesco where one in every three Inverness pounds is spend [needs citation].

    "
"The spider" would see main roads, streets and walkways linked up to allow access to any part of the city.

Authors of the Inverness City Vision document said it could benefit pedestrians and cyclists.

    "

    Curiously ambiguous.

I thought roads were linked up anyway(?)

"could" in 2nd sentence doesn't sound too ambitious...

I looked at the cycletrack map for Edinburgh trying to make a creature in my head. All I got was a slug. Or a sort of squished midge.

Joined up thinking? "The proposals it contains update a vision drawn up in 2003." More like lack of political will, doesn't that sound familiar.

Looking at some of the things that have already been done and the under laying problem becomes clear. Motor vehicles are allowed access, but because there is no law of strict liability, people are frighten of vehicles.

"With the pavements not having a kerb dropping down to the road it could be an area where children will run around and not be aware that it is still a road."

Yes it is still a road, but we haven't got past the mind set that drivers have priority in all situation, until we do then the shared road space concept can't work.

Nor is this helped by the current Westminster Government stated aim of declaring war on vulnerable road user "ending the war on motorist".
