I assume grey hair, wrinkly temples and no matric card means I probably wouldn't be able to get my frame marked/registered?

They'll just presume you're from physics, wingpig.

@wingpig I share those characteristics and I didn't have any trouble getting free bike security marking and free ankle strap thingies last year! Universities have staff too.

Staff still have swipeycards, though. The most recent thing I have is my 1998-99 Mondex-compatible undergrad card, on which I am depicted with long hair. Hmm. KB trickier to get to and from in my available lunch-slot anyway, so shall try the ECA version instead.

They were checking staff/matric cards when selling the subsidised locks last time.

Yeah, but the UoE is useless at updating them; my one expired 2 years ago. I'm sure the onus is on me to track up to George Square to get a new one, however.

    1. They've moved it to the lobby of JCMB (James Clerk Maxwell Building, the big brick ship-looking building)

    2. Bike security marking is currently taking 3-4 minutes per bike, said an official-looking man, and when I was there a few minutes ago there was already a queue of 10 bikes and lots more arriving all the time. Unless you're very patient and also impervious to the cold you might not want to bother with the bike marking.

I can't say what else is on offer as I just turned round and went home when I realised I'd have to wait 40 minutes or so before I could get the bike marked.

Apologies for being the thickest person in Thickdom, but where's the car park?

(And is Paterson's Land the old Moray House - google claims it is.)

@gibbo Yes, it's the Moray House campus, but not the Old Moray House building.

The car park is in the quad accessible from St John Street.

Hmm, I'm slightly disappointed that nobody has remarked on Edinburgh "Unicycle" Roadshows yet – joking aside, I did sporadically see a commuter on a unicycle travelling West along Lauriston Place when I used to catch the bus!
