Cramond to Porty boardwalk/promenade

    Just to confirm -

    THIS Saturday.

    10 at Haymarket (for those it's convenient for).

    I expect we'll be at that 'new' Roseburn junction about 10:15

    Start 'proper' at the 'roundabout' next to the Cramond Island causeway.

    About half a dozen people expressed an interest at the top of the thread.

    I want to particularly look at WS, WH & LG Roads (and north/south connections) - particularly in the light of this (where they are described as an on road cycle route) -

    and Granton Harbour.

    I'll add a few posts here on the day if people want to turn up 'mid ride'.

    Expect to be at The Haven Cafe about 12:30 (partly depends how many bricks need to be photographed at Granton Harbour...)

    Not strenuous or particularly rough, but full-on road bikes not recommended (unless it's all you've got).

    If you've never been on a chdot cycletour before, I can guaruntee they are fun and informative and full of "oh I never knew you could go that way" moments. They are always far rougher than the leader, on his baloon-tyred, rubber suspensioned, small wheel bike, usually appreciates as he zips off ahead, leaving the big-wheeled, rigid-framed struggling along in his dust :)

    I'm meant to be dropping the fork out of my little black recumbent this Saturday to do some creak-finding, but if the balloon tyres* I've ordered for the monstrous** bike arrive in time I might come along.

    * about 45mm
    ** before Laid Back's tandem arrived

    I'm sure you mean fully personed, rather than luggaged for a week's holiday.

    So yes.

    Pavements are available if you don't fancy jumping low walls.

    I'm torn between a record store day event and this now...

    Is the Haven Cafe the halfway point? If I try to do both events I might be able to get to the Cafe just after you've finished your cakes (which would unfortunately seem to be defeating the object a tad...)

    Oh, and it's not "balloon-tyred".

    All relative to the 25s.

    Given the damage to the rear-tyre of the normalbike, and the need to remove the icetyres from the hubgearbike, I'll put the knobbly 30s on the latter and bring that along.

    Bike prepped. Rear drum brake now unbinding so I don't have to ride around with it applied all the time

    @kaps, that is good as chance it might have slowed you down. You have a great day for it, alas my lungs still not completely better but as I have stayed at home supervising eldest daughter's studying for Nat 5s (what standard grades been replaced with) whilst rest of family gone south, no one will spot if I trundle down WoL path to new bike workshop in Juni Green with some Choco Leibniz, the King of a biscuits for their opening and to pick up tyre and maybe chain.

    If only it was as simple as replacing SG.

    Still I'll get a lunch in Murryfield at the end of the month for a Nat 5 assignment marker's meeting. Apparently the bike stands are rubbish so I'll take a folder or the Raleigh 20. It's only a mile from Haymarket.

    Pondering the apostrophe in "marker's meeting". I think it's a meeting belonging to markers but, if you used a plural, that would work too as it's a meeting for many markers. Hmmmmmm…

    That was a great day out. My new fatter tyres made my bike quite a bit more comfortable; Kaputnik discovered why his brakes weren't working properly; and SRD had the best workout of all of us by transporting a miniSRD, a microSRD, and a whole rucksack of stuff! Good to also see Hankchief and miniHankchief, and to remind myself what PS looks like.

    I'd never been to The Haven where we had lunch. My veggie sausage and egg ciabatta was really good.

    I think I caught the sunshine a little bit though!

    Goodness, a fine day was had by all, just at CTC Scotland meeting, and some discussion on CTC AGM, which this year is in Glasgow on 10-11 May. Note that a Bike Club post may come up in the East, and a few other details to catch up with.

    Sounds like I need to get out on a chdot ride sometime. They sound a bit like the Sustrans ones I used to lead - a sort of 'Here be the Cycle Route - well once we've built it' as, with no break of cadence I rode onto the ballast/field/through the hedge (well maybe slowing a bit for that one) and the group followed.

    Arellcat will be pleased to learn that I have fitted a new chain and read cog, so I can once again stamp on the pedals, but seem to have got away with not changing the front ring. However this thread has made me realise I do not have n bikes let alone n+1 and may need to do something about this soon.

    Yeah, good fun and frustrating to see how easy linking all those paths up with some sensible infrastructure would be if only someone with some clout at the Council put their mind to it.

    Thanks everyone. I knew I'd forgotten something when I rushed out of the house. Turns out it was the P20. I'm a bit pinker about the neck and face than normal now...

    Yep, that about sums it up.

    A good trip out this morning. The little chiefs enjoyed it and want a trip to the Gypsy Brae skillz course on their own bikes...

    @Wee_Folding_Bike Murrayfield surely offers the alternative joys of sampling the <cycling route>(choice of 2, delete whichever does not apply) from Edinburgh Park or Haymarket. If you are lucky you get the opportunity to 'race' a tram (I can see this perhaps becoming a new Edinburgh sport - cycle or bus along Glasgow Road - or shorter sections).

    Interesting though that there is such a paucity of cycle parking there, given that it is the main destination for Pedal for Scotland.

    I have always been able to park my bilke at murrayfield. There are bike racks but they aren't Sheffield stands. IIRC?
