"Five Ways" isn't the junction near to Craigleith retail park, though, is it? It is much, much futher towards Leith.

gembo, that is the right 5 ways. If you have never taken the route north to the shore the I suggest a quick exploration. It's not a long path and shortly after leaving 5 ways it heads into the Trinity Tunnel.

fimm, Five ways is indeed closer to Leith. It is this junction:

It's the junction between Chancealot, Goldenacre, Trinity, Ferry Road and Hawthorvale paths. (Although I'll confess to not having known all those names before)

When I was a boy we used to play on the abandoned railways around 5-ways, and the abutments for the east-west bridge were still there although the bridge was long gone at that point. Great fun for climbing. It was overgrown to the point of being impenetrable and you certainly had to watch out for dubious characters roaming around.

Fuerzabruta was in a tent opposite Ocean Ternimal, though that was possibly Fringe rather than EIF. Faust was in one of the exhibition halls at the Ingliston RHC, which was non-central but less convenient to get to, though at least I still lived in the city centre and only needed one bus.

A rejuvenation of a semi-relevant thread to point people in the direction of the TripAdvisor page for the Boardwalk Cafe. The people are not happy with this tawdry bauble. 2.2/5 stars kind of amazing how it survives [no competition] 325 people saying it is Terrible.

Linky. Interesting quote: "this place has the potential to be a really good and busy cafe but for some reason the owner has taken the me against the world mentality" - not just in relation to the cafe, or so I gather.

The reviews on Google aren't great either.

And yet: https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/26048702.edinburghs-seaside-beach-cafe-crowned-best-scotland/ However, this Reddit thread hints quite strongly at the goings-on behind this sort of thing. (And that's not the only Reddit thread critical of the place.)

Is the building still owned and leased by the council? If so, can it impose any conditions on renewal of the lease?

The Pitt is a far more pleasant place to go than Mad Eddie’s.

The TripAdvisor reviews are incredible, both in their content and consistency.

@Stickman - I don't know who owns it, but it apparently hasn't changed hands in over 10 years: https://scotlis.ros.gov.uk/property-summary/MID64622/1

Additionally, I noticed TripAdvisor saying "#294 of 324 Coffee & Tea Spots in Edinburgh" and got curious about numbers 295 through 324. It turns out that TripAdvisor includes locations which haven't been rated/reviewed in those 324 and, as far as I can tell, Boardwalk is the lowest rated of all cafes which anyone has rated/reviewed.

@Stickman - The Pitt getting good reviews tho some feel pricey for Granton. The proprietor of the cafe is called Fast Eddie. He dont like bike lanes. Indeed he followed us into the side street when we were campaigning with weans to save the Kingsknowe lane in his big motor and was peeved when he couldnt get out. I thought he lived in the street but apparently just real life trolling.

The food is overpriced and terrible. I suggested via their website that they should consider doing bacon rolls but I got a 'we know what we're doing response' back.

DOCKSIDE HOMES: Forth Ports been given the go-ahead to build up to 250 homes on the dockside near the First Stage film studio in Leith. The four blocks of up to six storeys will feature one, two and three-bedroom apartments, including a third classed as affordable, as part of the wider Harbour 31 masterplan. The development plans also include a Bath Street to Ocean Way bus route, cycle lane and footpath connecting the site to wider developments of Leith docks.
