Twice now about nine a.m. I have passed a group of approx six women jogging with their dogs on the NEPN near murrayfield. The dogs are mostly black labs and run quite straight. They are all off leash.

Today one of the dogs was catching up and the back two women were shouting at it Cosmo, Cosmo! get in but Cosmo declined. They then said just run him over, he's not our dog.

I see that group most mornings. Once witnessed the funniest thing when one of the dogs ran towards a runner who then did the funniest fairy run that I have ever seen into the scrub at the side of the path trying to get away.

Not to excuse unleashed dogs, but I don't know what he thought it was going to do, lick him to death?

I know exactly who you are referring to? But am struggling a bit. On a shared use path 6 versus 1, what is your expectation? Never seen them with a dog but wouldnt be surprised if woman who lunch have them, and can do sarcasm/humour

@bananaman. Six women and six dogs. Got no expectations,, just pootling past them without causing any bother. I said I didn't think I would try to run Cosmo over.

Could be worse could be a traffic jam. Slow down and work through. Less polution, and safer.

I like dogs. I don't have one of my own, so I like seeing them out - they make me smile.

I've never had a problem with them when on the bike - I slow down and say hello.

My favourite joke is to say "I'd ring my bell, but they might start salivating". Never received anything but a blank stare in response.

Dogs and their names. Once in Italy I saw a tiny wee chihuahua standing its ground and stubbornly refusing to be pulled along by its elegant lady owner, despite her shouting commandingly at it "Samson! SAMSON!"

Other Italian ladies seem to carry their chihuahuas in special doggy handbags. Molto chic.

Three well-groomed older women joggers on the Canalpath. I've just come under bridge, and there's a chicane, so I stop to let them go through. But instead they stop. Stand there blocking it and then turn around. Never acknowledging me. Then the proceed to run in the opposite direction, three abreast - two on opposite sides of the path and one in the middle and a little back, so I can't get past.

Eventually I ask them politely if it might be possible for me to get past, and instead of going single file like any sane people (there is incoming joggers and bikes too) they fan out to both sides of the path and mutter at me as I go past.

    I mean really?
