ARGH!
Posted 9 years ago # -
That's not a confession.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Oh dear. What was it this time? Remembered about socks and shoes but only brought one of each?

Would the guy who turned off the lights in the basement changing rooms on his way out please log on here and confess. The rest of us left in various states of undress and/or showering in the pitch black, with only the LED of the emergency lighting unit to guide someone around all the partition walls to the light switch at the far end of the corridor.

It was probably mean of me to laugh at that one Kaputnik...

I started my first commute without my studded tyres today and other than the rattles which have been masked all winter things seemed fine... until...
Crossing Cramond Brig my gears started jumping and then half way up the climb my chain snapped. I can't honestly remember if my tool kit contains a spare link or not but as I wasn't far from home decided it was easier to just jump on the bus.
Hopefully the weather tomorrow will be kind enough to let me catch up on a missed day.

double argh.
Was in shower when a gang of workmen started doing some sort of work on the cubicle next to me. much loud talk.
Disconcerting.
Finished up, towelled, changing. realise that i cannot find my glasses. hunt through bags. hunt through towels. hunt through bags again. fingertip search of shower floor.
starting to panic now. take everything out and shake everything. no sign/sound of glasses. getting desperate. wondering if I should ask the blokes next door to help me look.
finally do fingertip search of all my clothes and discover glasses held in place inside tights by the 'gripper' tapes that keep them from riding up.
sheesh.
you may have guessed I can't see very well. would have struggled even to walk home w/out my glasses, much less get any work done. AND drooling from dentist freezing front half of my face.

@SRD commiserations, that is giving me the dread. I once locked myself in a remote gents toilet in a primary school with no male staff just before a job interview. I do not think the cubicle had been used for several years and the lock failed.
Tuesday morning in a high school I nearly had the janny cutting my chain with his bolt cutters as key missing, found wedged in my wallet. Curiously at home time I could not find the key as I had left it in the lock. I blame the fact I had over trousers on that don't have a pocket

Came back from holiday and couldn't find my work badge: went a week without it because the front doors are normally staffed. Called in at the last place I remember having it (the restaurant where I ate before going on holiday) but they hadn't seen it. Finally fessed up on Friday that I'd need a new one - but nothing can be done until the Easter holiday period is over.
Found it in the drawer with my helmet cam about half an hour ago. I'd been thinking all this week, "I should get my camera out again" but not doing it. A week's hassle could have been avoided! At least the Easter holidays means that it hasn't been cancelled...

Got to the end of the road and it dawned on me I had forgotten my underwear, so had to turn back and go fetch.
Then got into work to find that the showerhead was missing in the shower?! Still awaiting a response from facilities as to where it has gone. Washing your hair under the pipe that the head should attach to is, erm, interesting to say the least!
Was a lovely ride though, may have to take my time and go a scenic route home if the weather holds up. Might be worth investing in some cycling glasses too soon.

Comment from someone on the way in today: "seen much ice this morning, then?"
OK, OK. I really should get round to changing out the spiked tyres.

Took the bus this morning due to aching quads (cycled 5 days of the last 7!). Soon regretted it and realised why I am trying to get away from relying on the bus...
47 was perpetually due in 9 mins then "delayed" with no further info. So I got the a different bus with the intention of changing somewhere to get across to Lothian Road. So, I thought, I'll be getting the bus home too so even if I just walk from Newington, it'll only be an extra 50p for a day ticket.
Wrong - I go away and the b*ggers put the price up!
Now late for work, feel like crap from sitting on a hot bus and don't feel that up for work!
Back on the bike tomorrow, methinks.

The downpour this morning showed that:
- my waterproof trousers aren't waterproof
- my Sealskinz waterproof socks are no longer waterproof
- my Altura jacket is borderline waterproof
- my gloves are as advertised (not waterproof)I had to surreptitiously dry wet shorts/socks/jersey under my desk.
Posted 9 years ago # -
@stickman , it was very wet. Here is my list
Goretex trousers semi-waterproof
Endura jacket - not very waterproof (dries quickly)
Aldi version of sealskins semi waterproof when combined with overshoes
Gloves still wet now.I cycled to train station but the train just before nine was missing in action and next train was 45 mins so I cycled. Bad mistake.

I looked outside this morning and thought, "oh it's not THAT wet". Five minutes later...
Thoroughly soaked after cycling in my work clothes plus a softshell. At least I had a change of shoes? Sadly, this was not true for tights/pants, and I had to sit on my folded up towel for the first hour until I was a bit dried out. Very professional!

Getting to work with soaking wet socks and finding you've forgotten to pack spares - annoying.
Donning a full set of still-wet gear for the journey home - excruciating.
Posted 9 years ago # -
No shoes today.
Cycled in using shoes with SPD cleats, normally change into shoes kept in desk drawer. I had forgotten I had worn those spare shoes home after running in to work last week.
Clump clump clump as I walk around the raised floor office.

Epic wardrobe failure today
The shame

@amir I currently have 4 left hand fingerless gloves and only one righthand glove.
No idea what's eating them.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Amir - you think that's bad? On Friday I got to work to find I had one black Altura sock and 1 black On-One sock on!
Posted 9 years ago # -
@kaputnik I am surprise you didn't feel that on your cycle
Posted 9 years ago # -
I only lose right gloves for some reason. I've ended up forcing left-hand gloves onto my right hand in desperation (leather gloves are nice and flexible that way)
Posted 9 years ago # -
@ARobComp and @sallyhinch
surely there must be a website for this sort of thing, bringing together those who lose only right gloves, socks etc with those who lose the left halves?
Posted 9 years ago # -
This could take over from that GCSE maths question that's everywhere:
"If a cyclist has six pairs of Specialized gloves and four pairs of Gore gloves, what is the probability that they buy a pair of Endura gloves (plus some bibshorts, a new saddle, some socks and starts looking at another bike)?"
Posted 9 years ago # -
@Stickman you forgot the bit about showing the proof that n = n +1.
Posted 9 years ago # -
@amir: take seven points for adhering to the port/left/red convention. (Three points deducted for right hand not being green.)
Posted 9 years ago # -
One lost endura Dexter right hand
One red gore winter waterproof (claimed) ripped right hand
One BTwin waterproof (claimed) ripped. Right handTwo new sealskinz extra cold in ENC sale, two new dexters on order (hope lost right hand then turns up)
All long fingers. Still too cold for track mitts?
Posted 9 years ago # -
You might think a glove called Dexter would have to be for the right hand.
Bargain bucket Thinsulate from GoOutdoors. Not lost any in years.
Posted 9 years ago # -
"Still too cold for track mitts? "
I managed mitts this morning after 6 miles with long fingered gloves. The afternoons are easier.
