Got to work and discovered both pannier bags were merely 'resting' on the rack - complete failure to do up the clips. All morning I was having flashbacks to the speed bumps and potholes which had been causing an odd noise that I couldn't quite put my finger on...

It must be the sun. I arrived this morning to discover my rack pack wasn't zipped up. Thankfully lock, wallet and most importantly lunch were all still inside.

Another wardrobe malfunction: accidentally squirted shampoo all over my trousers after shower. Subsequent walking through building with suspiciously damp trousers

Arrived to find I'd had my backpack front pocket unzipped the whole way into work. Fortunately keys and pass were still present.

Also managed to get in early enough to comfortable get a space on the stands. Yesterday I got the last one at 8.10...

Rode in incredibly slowly to keep from getting sweaty, but rolled up my chinos which are now crinkled. Standing near a steaming shower for a bit has not helped.

Hmm, perhaps we have encountered a hole in the ziposphere?

@ARobComp: fold* trousers around lower leg to keep front crease intact, tuck into sock. Long socks help - M&S do some long lightweight wool things that are just the job and also protect your trouser's lower leg.

*fold is the best word I could think of. The important thing is not to just stuff them into your socks...

Additional pro tips from the commuting heavy-sweater: wear white shirts (which don't show the sweat), use a proper hankerchief (which is ideal for dabbing one's moist brow), and use some Lush solid deodorant.

Great Advice Darkersider! Will do so later. Althought these are creaseless chinos ;)

@darkerside, you are referring to the gentleman's half hose socks. These are the bedrock on which the British empire was built. Available in grey, blue or black. When very old they become summer weight. Always get the size bigger then they will not wear out at heel or toe.

On sweating, wear semmit. This stops people asking you if it is raining outside, I know from experience of being big sweater.

Took the bus to work for the first time this year, as popping off to airport from office. Took me 45 mins, mostly sat on Princes St, as opposed to 25 mins via the Innocent Railway.

    "mostly sat on Princes St"

Just like it was BT (before the tram).

There are times when the tram (or at the tram-related signals) seems to make it worse than before.

The original idea was that buses would no longer run on P. St. and that people would 'interchange' at Haymarket and St. A. Sq.

It was 'decided' that Edinburgh people wouldn't do that!...

    Something must be done!!

(Or maybe more people will just realise it's quicker by bike.)

Took the bus into work today, first time for a long time.
65 minutes to cover a 5 mile distance (as the crow flies).
40 minutes normally sees me from my front door to my desk including shower + changing into suit.
    Foolish mortal.

    Wasn't me.

This morning I got a phone call from a cow-orker asking if I had an inner tube. I said I did but the chances of it fitting any bike she had were slim.

Turns out she had a puncture on the way in and, having no tyre levers, spare tube or pump, had hailed a taxi. I mended the puncture for her and might have mentioned how handy a pump, tools and spare can be.

At least she was cycling in. I think she got the bike two years ago on the C2W scheme. It was a road bike wheel, didn't see the bike. It didn't give me the impression of having been used over the winter.

  17. Had a contact lens fall out just as I arrived at the office this morning. That's never happened before, and too busy a start to be able to ride home for a replacement and back in (because, naturally, I don't have any spares here).

Surprisingly I've not got a stonking headache yet (and unsurprisingly Boots don't carry spares of my particular type as I've got an astigmatism).

Riding home is going to be interesting....

    Ouch @WC

I chained my chain to itself at artisan roast before paying £6.95 for some quite good Brazilian coffee at artisan roast. The drummers who were outside will have kept an eye on my bike which was sitting unsecured at the railing at artisan roast.

Excellent photos of Alec Guinness as obi wan and Jeremy Corbyn as JC. Looking similar. People of South East England, this is not the party you are looking for (Tories). Go home and reconsider your vote.

Finally getting my road bike back on the road (I never bothered to reassemble it after my Alps trip earlier this year, and in fact cannibalised it a little for the recumbent).

    Fit bottom bracket... check.
    Fit cranks... check.
    Fix seat and handlebars... check.
Replace missing jockey wheel on rear mech (!)... check
Put tyre on front wheel and fit... check.
Steal rear wheel back from recumbent... check.
    Fit GPS mount... check.

Just about ready to leave for the office when I realise there's no chain and I have no 10 speed spare!

Not to worry, Just Bike Repairs is Just Down the Road. Alas, closed until 2pm!

So after all that... it's way too late to get a bus to work (7:51 now) so I may have to commute on the MTB. KHAAAAAAAN!

I've been having a clear out and had three big bags of shredded paper and one of plastic wrapping. Not wanting to put them out in the green bin and have them blow everywhere when they come round, I decided to take them to the tip, so I stuffed the bags into my trailer and pedalled off to Old Dalkeith Road.

It all went swimmingly until I tried to do a right-handed u-turn in the warehousey bit. The Brompton's back tyre jammed against the trailer drawbar and stopped dead. I was expecting a tighter turn and so was leaned over accordingly, but suddenly didn't have a bike underneath me. Then I suffered a clipless moment and fell onto my trailer, twisting my ankle in the process. The bike then landed crank down on my ankle.

After dusting myself down, finishing the recycling, riding over to Biketrax, then riding to Laid Back and chatting to Roibeard, then riding home, I realised my ankle had swollen up. Rest, ice (sort of), compression (for a bit) , and elevation is sorting the swelling but I'm going to have a humdinger of a bruise tomorrow.

My ankle is quite sore and I have to ride to the active & sustainable transport meeting tomorrow too.

@arellcat- know your pain with twisted ankle- Mine collapsed under me when I was carrying micropaddy down the front steps last Saturday- she fell to the ground but luckily wasn't squashed by me and the shock was the worst that happened to her.

Ankle was twice the size of the other and went through a technicolour phase after RICE, but thankfully I was able to cycle on it throughout, even when walking was painful. Spinning on low gears seemed to work- just be careful going over bumps...

Today's confession was that I had to go back to the house 3 times this morning- once because I'd forgotten to recharge my lights and needed to find the spare, 2nd because after a p***t**e on Friday I'd only pumped the tyre up enough to get home, but not for a longer ride. Finally remembered I had to put the bins out.

After all that, it was about 20 mins into the ride that I realised that I hadn't put on my overshoes and my feet were heading towards the sodden stage. Rather than stop and improve things a bit, I carried on, and ended up pouring out a not insignificant amount of water out of both socks and shoes upon arrival at my destination.

    Eejit...

Running relatively late this morning and distracted by the presence of a few green glass splinters on the garden path, I didn't notice that I didn't have my pannier until locking up to drop the wingpiglet off at school and didn't notice that he didn't have his drink bottle until I was collecting my pannier from the kitchen.

It's actually very sore. But I cycled to work anyway.

I forgot my bike lock for the first time in several years. Thankfully I keep a spare in my desk so the bike isn't completely insecure.
