Labour councillor Scott Arthur posted the image on Twitter this morning from the Currie area, saying: “Winter impacts spotted on my bike to work today.”

Something four by four drivers seem to forget, they may have more grip than an average car when under traction they do not while breaking!

@chdot "a stream"? That's a downgrade for the Water of Leith. The WoLCT will be outraged! @Sheeptoucher, will you rally your troops?

That wee slip has occurred next to Currie's own South Fork Ranch. JR will extricate it with rope, horses and steers

Tried to have a conversation with a cyclist about their horrific rear-light dazzle at which point they effectively said "if you don't like it don't be behind me". At this point I should have either (a) ripped the light off the bike and lobbed it as far as I could or (b) followed his advice and moved my bike so it was obstructing his passage. Instead I stared at him in disgust and said "unbelievable".

Had a rear light flashing once on a frequency which made me start to feel nauseous

    i bailed today despite the 5degrees C -

I've just not been motivated for it this week - doing lots of running (some in the dark) instead .....which has been a fun distraction, and requires ZERO hassle for hiviz/lights/crap driving/aggrevation/black ice etc etc...
and it keeps me very warm!

i've been pleasantly surprised by how it's not nearly as cold as i feared this week.
but having managed to fall over my own bicycle yesterday evening, i've decided my knee would prefer to take the bus. as i can't cycle without my knee, i will take the bus too.

this is making me feel much better about the rain.

    Major fail tonight.

Had been up the pub after work. Returned to office, changed into cold weather clothes. Down to basement, noticed rupture on a chain link. This explains earlier grinding and slipping. Should have nipped into the cycle service this morning when heard the grinding but was having to rush for little tea party thing.

So decided to take bike on train to curriehill rather than chance main road with chain with dodgy link. Trains still on strike or cancelled or engineering, anyway bus replacement. So took train to Edinburgh park. Involved run down platform seven which is quite near Musselburgh so not in bike slot. Made it to Edinburgh park. Was an ice rink pretty much all the way to Balerno on tow path, Then really bad on gogar Station road. Bit better through Heriot Watt. Bad again near Curriehill station. Some leery lads sliding and shouting then driving their boy racers. They gave me a friendly toot and shout. Pushed up to A70, cycled from there still quite icy. Now drinking Highland Park, glad to be alive.

Yikes. That sounds most unpleasant. Highland Park well earned!

I've been making my own tea since I was eighteen but I just failed to hard-boil an egg. The shame.

Maybe we need a 'Confessions of a Kitchen Chef' thread. I made a veggie curry the other day, and cremated most of it with the help of my new stainless steel pot and leaving the heat on a bit too long.

    @arellcat, hope the pan recovers

@iwrats. Cook the egg at a rolling boil for full minute. Switch off heat, leave to stand for ten minutes? Is that your method?

My confession is I had two, OK three Brussels sprouts at dinner last night.. I jmust never eat Brussels sprouts again, tonight I had a chip off another plate thAt had been touching a sprout and I am having minor issues. I must never ever eat a Brussels sprout (Charlie and Lola)

To blazes with empirical time and temperature stuff. I use a voodoo technique with this dish - dropping the eggs into the pan with the pasta when it feels right. Failed for the first time in twenty years.

I am a clueless egg runt.

Perhaps the air pressure was locally significantly reduced, with your boiling water boiling at below STP boiling point.

There was a comic strip called 'Genius' in the Observer when I was a halfling that once included the words 'the density of osmium in boiling lager'.

It's an image that often comes back to me in the kitchen.

Ha! Good one. No, it was the mad counterpart that had Anode Enzyme as the scientist engaged to waste a plutocrat's money with mad inventions.

Someone at work keeps switching my (dynamo) light off for me, which is nice of them, I suppose. I'll need to put a sticker on the switch which says "Dynamo lights; they switch themselves off".

Meant to deal with two dirty Bromptons today but had to put a roof box on the memsahib's car after spending half an hour chipping ice off it so it would move.

I'll deal with the Bromptons before school goes back.

I had popped some spokes, and it turned out knackered my entire rim, previous to Christmas. I'd received the new wheel back and fitted it this morning. Got 100 yards down the road and my chain snapped. I'd forgotten to wash off the salt from before christmas before sitting the bike in a dry garage.

Swapped to back up MTB as I was already late. Will investigate how bad the damage is tonight.

Mech hanger bent this morning and flung rear derailleur into spokes and lodged chain in between cassette and spokes. Rear wheel completely seized and unable to dislodge.

Had to carry bike to The Cycle Service for them to work their magic. Only then realized I'd left the QR thru-axle skewer on the ground so had to go back and find it.

I suspect the hanger was weakened after a couple of offs this winter.
