@earthowned, that is a bad one, how far did you have to carry it?

Poking through the PlanetX perma-'sale' over the holidays I noticed they had wee plastic spoke protectors for inside the cassette, but they were out of stock by the time I got round to choosing anything.

@gembo Luckily not far. The wheel seized going up Canongate so just had to schlep up the pleasance cyclo-cross style with bike over the shoulder.

@wingpig I love rooting thru all the items in the planetX perma sale

Hadn't commuted for a month by cycle. First time yesterday. Nice downpour on the way home, lochains and lochs and rivers formed. Went Wheatfield Street way to Sainsbury's where there's a makeshift dropped kerb which I don't like the look of so stopped. Found I was ankle and trouser cuff (smart work trousers) deep in the Wheatfield Water.

Kudos to my ladies' natty half boots - they didn't let in a drop.

Went back to a yoga class in December because everything felt a bit seized up.I think the teacher had decided to ramp it up a bit now. Tonight I feel about two inches taller than I did pre-class but holy guacamole: I did not know my hips actually did that. Think I think I might have a yoga hangover* in the morning. (It wasn't even the sweaty kind of yoga (am pretty sure that's what ashtanga actually means).) Apparently I will not be signing up for any "yoga for cyclists" sessions until I get more bendiness back.

*like that feeling you get after you have an excessively deep deep tissue massage sometimes? (See: any "medical" massage at thermal baths in Hungary c. 2001 when you don't know the Hungarian for "mercy".)

Discovered that Bike 1 has a puncture, and I lacked the will to change the tube at the time. Which wouldn't be a problem, except Bike 2 is in for a service.

Seems like I need a third bike.

@frenchy, who cold fault that logic?

    who cold fault that logic?

I could. @Frenchy needs sterner will.

Don't listen to him @Frenchy. A hall full of bikes is the mark of a morally spotless human being.

Apologies to the person passing me (my excuse asthma slowing me down in the cold weather) on the Innocent as I swore my head off after going through yet another patch of glass. On the Innocent in wet weather the p***e fairy has many disciples.

I managed to swallow my bad words later as I failed to get my new Christmas gift pump to work. Luckily I finally got the hang of it as I was still a couple of miles from work.

@rider73 are you sure you haven't moved into a house built on an ancient bicycle graveyard?

    @unhurt - lol - thats on the money :D

EDIT: when i commuted nairn->inverness 3 times a week i had 1 puncture in about 12 months, and even that was just outside the house on the way back-- and i used the same bike at the weekends too.

Not a commute but a confession none the less. I forgot my rear light so instead of completing my ride on back roads in the dark I had to return the way I'd come in worsening rain along muddy paths, through huge puddles, and along pavements blinded by oncoming traffic. I got soaked by cars and - a new one for me - waves crashing over the sea wall at Port Seton.

    What a night...

Chatting in the changing rooms about what a manky night it looked and it didn't disappoint.

At Gogar roundabout came across the same mate stopped alongside a car with hazards on. Lots of things rush through my mind but it turns out the car had had a blow out (& been driven on for a bit by the looks of it). So, I stop and lend a hand in changing the tyre. Did I say it was bucketting it down...

After some confusion to find the spare tyre, jack and locking nut we set to work.
Some time (& swearing later) the job is done. We then noticed that the elderly driver (who hadn't made much sense since we arrived) was now even more unsteady and shaking. So before we let him set off we get him in the car with the heating on. It's only a small car and we're standing outside - did I say it was chucking it down...

It turns out he was from Kelso heading for East Lothian and had become confused and lost.

After about 15minutes he's starting to make some more sense and he heads away.

Someone must have been messing with the Karma machine as once I'm home I can't find my garage keys, so have to retrace my steps all the way to my locker at work... Did I mention it was pouring with rain?

Probably not the best day to be in shorts...

"Probably not the best day to be in shorts..."

Personally I can't understand shorts at this time of year...

Local postie seems happy with them.

(But he also has a van.)

I like bibshorts as they keep my lower back warm & I have lots of pairs of them. If it is cold I put on a pair of leggings over the top. I had leggings in my bag but didn't see the point in getting them wet.

I save my good biblongs for when it is really cold - like the CCE winter ride. Anything above freezing and they are too hot.

Wait - so you had to cycle all the way back to work again after all that @HankChief? How far is it? That must have put the tin lid on it.

@Sally Yep all the way back to work. The story would be better if it was further than 2 miles back to work but I'm not sure if I mentioned it was raining cats and dogs...

I was in shorts today, including on my trip to the zoo through the rain after work for the lantern thing, wandering around the zoo in the rain, heading back to town after the zoo thing through the heavier rain, then back home through the light hail after a colleague's leaving thing. Could have done with my level 4 glubs, perhaps.

Mystified by this “heavy rain” thing, think KB must be under-recording -

Ah. Friday. That was the day when I'd stayed a bit later then usual, and my colleague who was leaving at the same time said "Do you want a lift?" and I said "Yes".

Today I forgot - pedals. How embarrassing.

Swapped flat pedals off the commuter hack to the road bike so my wife could do a tri over the Xmas period, and forgot to swap them back. Found myself outside my daughter's school wheeling a pedalless bike...

    Wow that is embarrassing.

Once I drove all the way to the other side of Glasgow for an audax and found I'd forgotten my shoes. The organiser lent me some but they were too small. I had to apologise profusely to cyclingmollie who I'd given a lift.

Having had a day off the cycle yesterday, I was looking forward to today's commute. Firstly I overslept. Then I found the back tyre flat (this was a new tyre having had numerous flats the last few days - must have pinched the tube on fitting). So I decide to give the 29er its first commute (inspired by others). It took me as long to set it up as to deal with a flat. Sigh. But the commute in was okay. This bike rolls much better than my old mtb though it takes a lot more effort to get up to speed than the Spa. My back was a bit muddy though. Must get more effective guards.

Seeing promising forecast for today (and now reports here on the towpath being bad) I wanted to cycle in today finally. The only small issue was that I made a birthday cake* for my lift provider. So I asked Mrbill to deliver the cake to my lift provider and ask him to take it to work.

Still quite a few melting ice puddles west on Edinburgh.

    * I delivered quite a few birthday cakes on the bike before -- I had the components packed separately and assembled the cake at work. But this time wanted to make one which needed to be assembled the night before and chilled.

Had the chain on my re-cobbled together commuter snap AGAIN on way in yesterday (new chain in post). Had to lock it up and get an Uber so I didn't miss my appointment at my trendy barber shop. (Such a millennial)

Meant I had to take my fancy pants bike in today and get it covered in salt (MTB currently Out of order too until new crankset arrives). I had to give it a water bath outside work so that it doesn't sit in the dissolving road juice.

Wait, how did you not notice you were pedalless until outside your daughter's school? Or do you live immediately above the school?

    So many questions! :D
