The lid on my water bottle failing and creating a large puddle on the carpet on the floor beside my desk would have been a good start to the day had the good start to the day not already been provided by me leaving my keys in the pocket of the shorts which were half-way through the soapy phase in the washing machine when I realised I didn't have them, fortunately prior to leaving the house or snapping the padlock shut in the car park.

    "contemplating re-arranging my office furniture"

Have you done a risk assessment?

Exceedingly hard work cycling home tonight. I was blaming it on sore legs from last night's gym sesh. That is, until I got home, and found the unfastened pannier strap trapped in my rear disc brake...

Congratulated myself this morning on drying out my bag, waterproofs etc after a wet run home yesterday and before (another!) wet run in this morning, until I pulled out the fleecy gloves which I'd stuffed into the pannier pocket when I got my keys, and promptly forgotten all about :-(
Cold wet gloves first thing, yuk! (And it was too cold not to wear them!)

Shirley you have more than one pair of gloves, Smudge? I certainly do, but mainly from seemingly endless experiments in trying to stop my fingers turning white in the cold.

Duofold fleece (holed the palm in a crash in 1998, wore out the end of a finger, still nice though)
Halfords fleece (wore out the ends of two fingers, too short, basically rubbish)
Specialized Lobster (warm but very cumbersome)
Seal Skinz Ultra Grip (warm but a bit too tight, so actually not very warm, vagely waterproof)
Altura Night Vision (warmish and roomy enough, moderately waterproof, so my usual winter choice)

Mostly motorbike gloves that are waaay to hot for cycling, plus I was predictably tight for time and the two immediate choices were the wet fleecy ones or an overwarm pair of leather "combat" gloves, which were buried at the bottom of my bag. Yuk won over emptying bag and having sweaty hands!

Arguably a personal best on Friday.

Arrived home at the end of the day and was chatting to someone in the close as I unlocked the front door. Wheeled bike in, forgot to close door.

Put bike in back room and felt pretty wet and miserable, so jumped straight in the shower. There's no external window in our bathroom, so we normally keep the door open to allow the dehumidifier a good run at the steam.

As a result, I managed to have a fairly prolonged shower (complete with obligatory singing), with no form of barrier between me and the outside world.

    Still. No harm done...

I'm always having to shuffle stuff between different panniers or bags, and today I managed to leave the house and be halfway into town without bringing my lock.

My huge big U-lock lives on the bike rack where I usually work. For going anywhere else I have four different locks to choose from. Thanks to The Bicycleworks and its commuting-time opening hours I now have a fifth lock to choose from.

Fortunately my multitool has a knife blade on it, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to cut the cable tie that strapped the keys tightly to the lock, nowhere near the tumbler itself.

But most embarassing of all today was that I also forgot to pack my hairbrush.

This weeks commuting confession is that due to lurgy and lack of determination I haven't turned a pedal... :-o

Fear not smudge, I've not been at work but have turned several pedals so it balances out.

Likely to be turning them again tomorrow as some flat pack will be taking up space in the car so I'll need to load it up at IKEA, memsahib can drive it home, I'll cycle home and then assemble said flat pack.

I got to work and discovered my pannier was not on my bike...which it definitely was when I left.

    :(

Eventually retraced my steps and found it on the grass beside MMW unharmed.

Cycled to Tescos yesterday, did a bit of light POP handlebar flyering, locked up bike and popped in to buy some wine. Came out, rummaged in pockets for keys, no keys. Panic. Keys still in lock ...

Forgot my towel and trousers yesterday, so had to buy more in St James centre.... Shorts from Next, fit the waist but not my legs!! Do all white collar workers (sorry for my stereo type) have thin legs?? Also got a matching towel from John Lewis for the last time I forgot a towel... dhoop!!

Today I got a few funny looks from collegues, with comments like, 'shorts!? in the rain'?? Like they don't know I don't leave the office unless I'm in cycle gear so I could wear what I like in the office as I get changed before I go home...

DaveC: at least your towel wasn't pinched from the cycling drying area at work like mine was yesterday! Fortunately I collect it (or not as the case was) at the end of each day to put back in my locker ready for the next morning, so I was able to bring a fresh one in this morning.

I also forgot a towel on Monday but have to ashamedly admit to being too busy at work to turn back on my commute to fetch it. Strategic use of the non-sweaty parts of my teeshirt and paper towels was deployed. Thankfully I was the only one in the changing room!

Your towel was stolen!! Eek!! We're a smallish office so if any towels went missing an angry email would come round from the office admin! Fortunately for me (as we're a tech company) we're based in the city centre so shops are not too far away.

Have you considered emailing staff in your office to see if anyone took your towel by mistake, as it is a similar colour and size?

@Meepmeep what sort of towel? A plain white one has been abandoned in the gents room as of this morning

Sounds like the one, Kaputnik - plain, not too big (smaller than a bath towel). Any chance you could leave in the drying room on one of the chairs near the middle lockers, please?

The towel is getting washed thoroughly before its next use!

CCE to the rescue once again... Re-uniting owners with their stolen towels since 2009.

You two work in the same building but converse via the interweb?? Must be like those couples who facebook message each other from the sofas?

Not quite, Dave. I wouldn't know Kaputnik if I knocked him flying with a door (I did that to a poor bloke last month being quite forceful with a heavy door)!

Don't think we're in the same building.

Adjacent buildings but share common facilities, and there's 000's of people on site so not that easy to work out who's who.

I shall return the towel to the drying room if it's still there. I saw a note this morning about a missing towel and had already done a bit of mental 2 + 2 = towel arithmetic.

Seems to be the week of forgetfulness ... 2 chaps in my office this week thus far have cut a lonely dash sitting in the changing room while waiting on the missus to deliver the key in one case, and pondering what to do with himself in the 2nd case.

It was my towel after all, Kaputnik. Thanks for leaving it in the drying room. :)

Not quite commuting but I was out on a ride with a friend today. Now, in thousands and thousands of miles of riding on all surfaces in all weathers I have never once failed to reinsert my water bottle into the downtube cage after taking a drink. So, nice day, on the Seafield shared path, lovely and relaxed. Take a quick drink and put it back by feel as I have countless times before. Clunk! Thwack! under the back wheel it goes, leaving a nice puddle on the path as shameful evidence. The bottle - a Camelbak Podium, which I cannot recommend highly enough - was remarkably completely unscathed save for one more scuff and the lid somehow stayed on so I hadn't lost too much.

It is likely that this will never happen again except when I am with someone.

@allebong, that happened to me on the e tape that was sabotaged. Nearly took out the entire team marmite (before I swapped to team tunnocks). This would have been before the official sabotage of carpet tacks by the kinlochrannoch culprit

It wasn't until I was in the changing room that I clearly remembered lifting the carrier bag of ironed shirts and trousers out of my pannier this morning and resting them temporarily atop a nearby multipack of bogroll in order to pack my flask. Fortunately my emergency emergency shirt was stuffed right down the back of my locker. When first so designated about two years ago it was freshly-ironed...
