When I was small we were forced to change after swimbling classes at school on the outdoor grass beside the outdoor swimming pool.

When I were at school we had some indoor grass but that was a long time ago

I really need to start leaving an emergency towel in the office.

I got a lift to Mrs G's office today with my Brompton in the back of her Berlingo (for the first time in years we left the house at the same time due to mini- and micro-Greenroofers being with the in-laws).
The commute was 2.2 miles downhill. It was very unsatisfactory: I arrived at work in my bike kit but not having had a proper workout. It seemed wrong, somehow. I spent the rest of the day feeling out-of-sorts.
When I got home I cleaned the Brompton chain as penance.

Perhaps even it out tomorrow by putting the Berlingo on the back of the Brompton?

Figures. Issue at home so need to get back from the office ASAP. Not had a puncture in ages. Sooo, tyre is flat...

Summer bike getting back wheel tweak, tricross getting new headset so took winter bike down, all fine till cousland - glass on road. Pal thought air rifle. Tyre shredded. Valve seized on to rim. Needed hammer. Had to get home first. Pal helped with bodge fix. Lasted til Colinton, actually was still fine just picked up second p word elsewhere on tyre given potholes and glass. Now has new tube and gator skin. Hopefully good for when summer ends. Was toasty on our walk tonight, leaving post walk analysis in grey horse the pipers were practising in the hall. Magic

like a drowned rat this morning - possibility the wettest I've ever been on my commute.
Was scraping the bottom of my desk-drawer supply of replacement clothing. Which had been foolishly depleted as I thought it was summer.

@Iain McR Haha! Cycled in sunshine most of the way this morning, then a little warm shower in Livingston. Was feeling very smug while hearing a downpour shortly after 8 am ;-)
Posted 5 years ago # -
I was actually ready to leave home much earlier than around the 8am downpour, but spent the time doing the washing up and managed today's cycle completely dry!
Posted 5 years ago # -
It seemed to be raining when I was on the train. When I got off the train it had stopped :-)
Posted 5 years ago # -
everyone's smugness makes me feel so much better.

Was out on the MTB early doors when bad weather predicted but got a nice sunny couple hours in the Pentlands. Got home in the rain at 8am then set off for work on the commuter at 8:30 and had no bad weather all the way in! Not too shabby. Now am pretty tired and very hot. I do not have many clothes that work in this sort of humidity.

I think my clothes might just now be dry enough to cycle back in, in the rain.

There was a bit of a traffic jam (3 bikes westbound, 1 bike eastbound) on the towpath this morning (before 7am!) as one of the swans was hanging out in the middle of the towpath (west of the bypass). It hissed at me a few times as I slowly and cautiously went passed.

Thoughts along my ride this morning in cold and low sun:
"It's not even mid August. Why single digits?!", "I don't want summer to be over", "Winter is almost here", "I don't want to cycle in dark again", "I don't want frost".
A bit of a pooey mood indeed! But then it was all sparkly in Livingston from lots of water droplets on pine trees illuminated by this lovely sun, so I got in a better mood.

Swan's were still occupying the path when I passed around 09:30!

After forgetting my lock and having to go back, I then got completely lost in the West End trying to find the location of my appointment in Canning Street. Having decide to wear civies on the bike, I will now have to change into my cycling clothes as they are now less smelly!

Last night about 10.15pm my sunspecs fell from the secure for years position tucked into the front zip of my jersey.on the roundabout inside Heriot-Watt. Miles back at st Bernhards well I had hit a bump in the dark where hole being dug. This maybe loosened them?
The first three wheels of the taxi missed them but the fourth one got them

First week back after AL. On unpacking my bag last night I discover I've been riding this week with a 26in inner tube packed neatly into my emergency pack, instead of a 700c. Also discovered half a quick link and repair patches that wouldn't patch anything.

Arrived at work at 8:15 this morning to find that the shirt I thought I'd left in my locker was not there. Queue heading back out into the cold to the Gyle, where I found that only M&S food hall opened at 8, clothing not opening until 9. Went through to Morrisons where they had exactly 3 men's t-shirts in stock- 1 S, 1 M and 1 L. Those who know me know that S and M are non starters. Now sporting a "just about big enough if I don't reach up or bend over" L.

"just about big enough if I don't reach up or bend over"
@paddyirish Haha! I imagine your posture is pretty good today and you avoid any deep breaths! I remember doing that when my shirts somehow became tighter.

Over the last few weeks I've been trying to achieve the perfect trifecta of
- Remember lunch
- Remember towel (if commuting by CX bike)
- Remember lightsOut of 15 commutes I've managed this only about 40% of the time.
I now have a sign to leave on the bike saying "LUNCH, TOWEL, LIGHTS"
Looking forward to getting to work with none of the above and the sign still on bike.

On the Arbroath train tonight, young lad gets on with an old road bike. Cantilever brakes and downtube shifters old. In the worst state I've ever seen.
Covered from front to back in a thick layer of dried mud, so much so that I couldn't make out what type of bike it was. There was mud in places I'm not even sure how it would get there. I could make out the front fork though which had rusted through. Chain was almost fluorescent orange. But the worst part was the 'tyres'. They had worn through to an almost translucent layer which was coloured grey presumably by the inner tube. Not the safest option for for commuting in temperatures close to zero... He did have a helmet on to be fair.

I rode home with my winter trousers on back to front. They are never comfortable to walk in so I was on the bike before I discovered my mistake.

I now have a locker at work. Will report back on whether this makes me more or less useless at remembering all the things I need. AT least I'm certain to have deodorant, a towel although yet to remember to bring down some shower gel...
Posted 4 years ago # -
@ARobComp, My locker tuppence worth: Always keep a set of clothes in it. Even if you have already worn them.
ie don't take the last dirty clothes home until you have replenished the stock of clean ones.

Apologies to everyone in Edinburgh today who probably heard the front brake on my bike every time I wanted to slow down. Good grief. I really must get on with sorting a proper replacement fork.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Not to worry, I don't think it was audible over my bottom bracket squeak.
Posted 4 years ago # -
one of my brakes is incredibly squeaky in the rain, i figure it's just a bell substitute. it seems to get more attention.
