I was out just earlier for about 15 minutes and didn't see anything, but I can't see the Castle and that low elevation from here.

There is however a magnificent orange glow in the northwest as though Grangemouth had exploded.

Ah it's not just me then. Not seeing much in the way of the lights though.

Managed to see some activity from Blackford Hill. Only other person up there had an SLR which managed to get some very decent shots (much better than naked eye!).

I only found out about it after I went to bed and even northern lights won't get me up.

Just seen from Morningside. First time I've ever seen them. Really quite bright and impressive for a while.

Not sure how long these things normally last but worth a look?

We went out and had a look last night, but couldn't see anything convincing (we knew they were visible as someone was posting photos to Facebook). We didn't go very far, though; if we'd got out of the streetlights things might have been better.

Took a walk down to Porty Beach just before ten last night and the display was pretty vivid, a big green curtain right across Fife.

They never look as good with the naked eye as they do in long exposure photos, but still quite a sight and exceptional for southern Scotland.

  15. Very impressive from my Mountcastle attic last night. If they come back tonigh, I might have a wee pedal down to the beach for a more open view.

Even my kids were impressed. Really, it takes a lot to impress them!

Do we have any idea if it will come back yet? BBC was saying far north only earlier.

Trust me to be leisuring in Germany missing this !

Have seen some breathtaking cosmic displays over the past decade - north of Tromso, Alta, Skibotn, all the northern Norwegian hotspots

Yet whenever i've enthused to the locals, they've said "nah, this is nothing, wasn't worth getting out of bed for"

Well, it makes you wonder about the full corona aurora on a good night at Abisko

    http://www.auroraskystation.com/en/

(flight to Stockholm then overnight train north, OR flight to Tromso then bus down to Narvik and quick train east over the border)

PS having explored the various Norwegian permutations

while the long haul 12 day coastal return voyage:

    Bergen > Kirkenes > Bergen

    https://www.hurtigruten.co.uk/uk-offers/norway-offers/northern-lights-promise/

remains the best (mid october to late november being the cheapest bang for buck)

there is a cheaper option of

Norwegian airlines flight from Edinburgh to Tromso

    then this:

    https://www.visitscandinavia.org/PageFiles/6959/Tromso_Round_Trip.pdf

Tromso > Skjervoy > Tromso day return bus / ferry

(this cheap day return section of the overall hurtigruten voyage is the best offshore aurora option)

but you miss all the lofoten / trollfjord etc

very good currency conversion between UKP and NOK right now due to oil price fluctuations so get stuck in
