I face a pet hate on my daily commute with a car parked on the eastbound stretch of McDonald Road. The whole northern side is a straight advisory cycle lane with double-yellow line/car-dooring zone except for this stretch, where there is a single yellow line.
My guess is somebody forgot to paint the double yellow line between the bus stop and the crossing zig zag.
Of course the owner of the black Vauxhall, as in the street view, feels entitled to park there.
Appeal to reason with the driver has not lead anywhere beside insults to cyclists.
My question is where I can find plans for McDonald Road? how can I get 2.5 m of double yellow lines?

According to the council maps it does look like there should be parking restrictions (part time maybe) all along there.

I used the transport map and selected "waiting and loading markings" from the legend. It's still not at all clear though.

Clarence it - they forgot some of the lines on the QBiC too, and a Porsche found it very convenient for some weeks.

Thanks for the link urchaidh. I have reported it last month on the Edinburgh Council email for roads, Roibeard, but so far has fallen on deaf ears. I'll Clarence it directly with a picture of the map. Thanks guys.

Annoying, isn't it - always the same car, and pretty sure always sitting in it...

When we worked in McDonald road the office carpark was far away from the building and used by white van man regardless of any signs to the contrary. The lollipop woman was a lovely person and a poker player. She gave up the job after being knocked down twice.
For a fairly pleasant, nondescript road there was a certain lawlessness

IIRC the zebra crossing is a relatively new addition that only arrived when the new Co-op food store opened a couple of years ago. So it was probably single yellow along there anyway, they just 'forgot' to add an extra line for that stretch between the bus stop and the crossing zig-zags.

Still like that, goes with the general de'il may care attitude of drivers on adjacent Leith Walk. There's the drivers racing each other to get to the road narrowing gap first (instead of sensibly slowing down and giving way); a variation of this game exists which involves racing to overtake cyclists going through the cut-throughs at aforementioned road narrowings, only to often fail and bear down upon said cyclists when they have to pull out to avoid cars parked in the cycle lane or turn right...
Many drivers ignore pedestrians trying to cross at the zebra too. Must be really important for them to join the queue at the lights 100 yards away a few seconds earlier.

CEC is getting "someone to check the markings as a first step".

Also, does anyone know why there is a cycle cut through at only 2 out of 3 (I think - 1 missing anyway) of the built out traffic islands? I think that's my McDonald Road pet hate...

@Vez, there's no logic to the road layout there, unless the thinking was to use cyclists as cheap traffic calming at some pinch points, but allow drivers to overtake at others. I hate that too.

"does anyone know why there is a cycle cut through at only 2 out of 3"
Yes

There's cut throughs at 2 of the 4 build-outs... It was 3, but the forth (at the primary school) is relatively new and put in without.

Once you get the lines in, then the persuasion will need to move on to enforcement...

Given that folk regularly double park on McDonald Road, blocking the cycle lane and cut-throughs, I'd say good luck with that. Not that getting the lines painted is a bad idea, it just doesn't resolve the wider parking issues on that road.

Double parkers can be found near Kwik-fit and near Broughton Primary at school hourse but beside that i think parking on McDonald Road is enforced ok-ish, 6 out of 10.
Certainly it's not as bad as Albert Street. If I ever find that road without double parkers, I'm going to make a photo and frame it.Posted 10 years ago # -
The wee build-outs on Marionville Drive have cut-throughs on both sides, but they're often unusable when the cars parking on the footway are too close to the build-outs.
Not all of the build-outs on Links Gardens have cut-throughs, irrespective of whether it's just because that side of the road's direction of travel has purported priority. Those which do are often blocked by parked vehicles. There are often stationary buses or bus-servicing vans parked right next to one of the build-outs which does have a cut-through nearer the Restalrig Road end.Posted 10 years ago # -
I noticed some roadworks going on McDonald Road this week. I realized just today: double yellow lines! Thanks Edinburgh Council!

Yes one of my friends has been complaining about it for ages:

Congratulations! But don't get too excited - people can get permits to park all day on double yellow lines :-)

@robyvecchio
What exactly was your "appeal to reason" to said driver.
Of course the vehicle owner "felt entitled" to park there.
They were not breaking any rules.
Posted 10 years ago # -
The appeal to reason is: the whole road doesn't have on lane parking, is parked on an unbroken cycle lane, forcing me to change lane with cars more concerned to overtake the parked car than to give me space.
I know they were not braking rules but they were not exercising empathy or common sense. I pointed that out in good faith in case she didn't notice and received only insults.
That's why I used "entitled" because the common sense stated above was set aside in favour of "I'm allowed to park outside my home, and I'll do it regardless if I endanger other people".Posted 10 years ago # -
There's a similar problem on nearby Brunswick Street. Pavement buildount narrows the road (houses wheelie bins), nearby are acres of parking spaces (permit only). One half of buildout has no double yellows, so of course some chump goes and parks there, blocking half the narrowed street. But hey, he/she saved on a permit...

Fetch the yellow paint?

@Snowy -
Fetch the yellow paint?
... and do one of those "council worker jobs"** by painting the yellow line over the roof of the car where it is parked ???[giggles]
** this is intended in jest, not insult ...
