I was definitely up for the "laps in 90 minutes" thing, but I'm now going to be away int he lake district climbing up things that weekend :(

Ah, that probably explains why there were so many cyclists riding round and round and round and round and round Arthur's Seat when I went running there on Sunday.

The "Find a better way to work” challenge isn't until the 22nd, but maybe there are people out there in training for the event.

That sounds familiar.... know you've mentioned it but here's link.
http://www.arthursseatchallenge.co.uk/times.htm
This had a very neat power calculator - web site designed and updated by someone on this very forum. They may make themselves known in time...
In fact people can still look at the times and find out how they might be placed. The park authorities at that time weren't too keen on it.
Assume that the roads will be cleared for 22nd?
Coming off the hill you can hit crazy speeds.Posted 14 years ago # -
"In fact people can still look at the times "
A certain person had several stabs at it I see. Can't tell if the times were improving or getting worse though!

I found getting below 4 mins on the hill quite hard to impossible.
The ERC will expect to knock off a circuit in under 10 mins? I better not take part as I'll just get in the way ;-)

@ LaidBack, ah but the original only when half way around, my version goes the whole way round which takes a wee bit longer. The roads are closed on Sundays, so I would suggest that is the day to do it.

@Laidback:

...but I remember that I didn't get many takers until you went round all the shops with little signs and then started taking your Laidback tours up there as well. So a bit of a joint effort. It was a pity the park people were so officious about it though.Posted 14 years ago # -
I'm going to have a shottie at this tomorrow. My new yellow bar tape and cable housing must add on at least an extra knot, and the socks with a Rabbie Burns quotation on the sole will positively make me fly

That's true. It was a hill climb. Some people ran up it!

I've found that the hill road is often busy on a Sunday as people love to drive it with dogs, picnic tables etc and sit by loch. Nicest drive in the city - only spoilt by cyclists doing the hill climb.
I assume that this and other roads will be closed for the event. The carpark at Holyrood though must be staying open as cars are the primary means of delivering visitors to this park. I daresay this bigger challenge will have a few 'driving' cyclists too.
I may well have a go too. Think it is a super idea.

Went a bit more adventurous and did the "Col de Climpy" as found on the bike chain website. The return descent from Balerno back into town was ruined by how appalling the road surface is. I think I managed to go faster on the climb out of town. Humph.

kaputnik - you should sample the surface in the winter, it is quite good at the moment
