Agreed - a good precedent to set. Wonder if it can be quoted the next time the local polis shake their heads and say, nah, a bit of footage isn't going to get you anywhere pal...
Mind you, the sentence baffles me...the punishment for a banned driver is to ban him from driving?
The other banned drivers who are also still hurtling around like loons must be shaking in their boots.

As Dave B says, it's likely that they only decided to run with this one once they realised the driver was banned. Had he not been, it would probably have been brushed under the carpet.

Driver fined £375 and given 150 hours community service. Likely to be because he was driving whilst banned. That can be captured on film and used as evidence, whereas other stuff needs corroboration?

Dave B. Taking the war to the motorist on our behalf.
Happy with this result. Not surprised he found a battle with a car driver.Posted 11 years ago # -
Good to see Dave got a positive result. Just a shame it wasn't the right result. How someone can show contempt towards a previous court ruling (i.e. the original ban) and still get off with another finite (and ludicrously short) ban is beyond me. He'd probably have got longer for just swearing at the judge!
You should quite simply lose the 'right' to drive if you choose to disobey a driving ban. Permanently. And any community service (call it what you will) should be related to the offence. In this case, he should have to work on a project related to cycling - perhaps a road-mending crew fixing cycle lanes, just as long as it gets him nice and mucky in the process!
