Following on from Craigleith consultaion and the publication of the contact email of the council person, I have emailed in this:

    Hello Paul,

I found your email address on CityCyclingEdinburgh forum in relation to Craigleith NEPN improvements. I’d like to suggest some drainage work off St Boswells Road on the north side, if you are the right person to contact about this, please.

I cycle along the NEPN every day on my commute in from Fife to St Andrew Sq. I notice good work has been done on drainage at the Roseburn stretch, up at Silverknowes and underneath Granton Road to help drain away flooded sections of path. I’d like to suggest the north side of the NEPN at the St Boswells junction. The path is uneven in places and the flood which happens whenever it rains forces users to move to a narrow part of the path on the south side. The water takes days to drain away and never empties in winter. Could any funds from the cycling budget be made to dig out a drainage pit where the flood is worst and then pebble infill can be placed, similar to what has been used in Silverknowes by the bridge over the path, Silverknowes Road?

    Kind regards,

This section is perminantly flooded in winter, and has only just started to reduce now.

Where's the St Boswells junction, Dave?

The Silverknowes stretch where that drainage work was done last year has reverted to standing water again - there's been a puddle right across the path the past two weekends.

I think it's Boswall Place (no saintliness involved), named for the Boswalls who were the traditional land-owners in these parts. The bit on your left beyond Ainslie Park / site of the old Peebles factory as you head towards Leith from Crew Toll.

Yes, it's that rough section with the exit to your left (if heading towards Leith)

Good call, DaveC. That stretch is awful. Frequently flooded with tight passes.

I reckon a bit of guerilla gardening could help here and at two ponds between the red bridge and Easter Drylaw. But not a long term solution.

I received a response from ECC this morning:

    Our ref

    Dear Mr Cxxxxxxxxxx.

NEPN BOSWALL PLACE JUNCTION - DRAINAGE WORK

Thank you for your email of 24 March 2014 highlighting the drainage issues on the north side of “St Boswell’s Road”.

I presume that you are referring to the junction where Boswall Place meets the North Edinburgh Path Network (NEPN). I can confirm that the Council is looking at improving the drainage at this location and we plan to have the drainage works designed and constructed by the end of May.

I hope that you find our response helpful.

    Yours sincerely

    Planning Officer
