Only just noticed (the day before) that POP has moved a bit earlier in the day to a noon start.

Alas, I suspect we won't make it. No.1 son has music class in Porty at 10.30, finishes at 12.15pm. If we skip the second class we're still setting off from the Prom at 11.15am at the very earliest (more like 11.30am). Even if we're on the tandem (rather than him on his own bike as I wished) I can't see us getting to the Meadows in time for the start, unless we honk it up the main road. Certainly unlikely going via Bingham/Innocent.

    Hmm. Problems! :-(

You might miss the minute's silence, but you won't miss the ride!

    (You'll be 4001+2)

    Or is that 5001+2

I suppose if we go via Fishwives Causeway, Portobello Road, then Holyrood Park, and cut up Holyrood Road/Pleasance it might take 25/30 minutes. NCN 1 likely to be too slow: not so much the paths themselves but the windy route to get to them...

Unless we fire up Duddingston Park past the golf course and turn off to the path before the Niddrie Burn. Hmm, might work.

When it was on Sunday, we had to hold it later so that people could get there, given the train schedule.

But with the Saturday, city was keen that we were early, which suited us fine.

We are aiming to be late to reduce the time small person will be in the trailer. Will probably miss the silence and bell ringing which is a shame but will hopefully make the day a bit more fluid for us.

Worst case scenario - if you're running late you could go straight to Holyrood. Gives you the opportunity to collar Keith, but then you wouldn't get to ride through the MMW bike counter.

OT - presumably the bike counter will underestimate numbers of cyclists as a tandem will only show up as one bike?

We're now walking (from the station) as daughters one and three are coming (and possibly two as well) and trying to get their friends to go and we don't all have bikes.

"But will a bike and trailer be counted as two??"

    Or one and a unicycle?

I guess it depends how many others cross the counter at the same time.

The Kirkcaldy feeder ride will be passing Dalgety Bay about 9.30 so you should be ahead of them most of the way.

Aye, we are meeting them at the DB train station. :) I may be lagging behind on that bike though, I average about 8mph on it....

I'm hoping to meet them somewhere around Whitehouse Road. Although that really depends on how my morning goes.

Remember we have a walking group called pedestrians on parliament and also there is a family area for those with wee uns.

Marshalls will be helping organise these groups.

    See yuou all tomorrow!

I may also be late. Child #3 is in dance class until 11:30 so we won't make it to the Meadows for 12. Probably won't get there until nearer 12:30, but I suspect if there's a large number of cyclists, we might still tag on to the end of the queue?

HOWEVER - the good news is that the weather forecast has radically improved for tomorrow. It's no longer due to be raining and instead will be light cloud with a breeze, 13°C. This morning, the forecast was rain, rain, rain for tomorrow at noon...

The forecast seems to have been changing hourly ... we've had everything but plagues of frogs forecast in the last two days.

The family area will be at the front. ARobComp is your man for the details

There will be an area which we'll invite kids and parents into at the front of the queue. However it will be limited and will be first come first served. See you all soon!

Well we made it in time. Missed the minute's silence and bell ringing, but plenty of space to hang about near the back, enabling my son to eat his sandwich. In the end we came up Duddingston Road West and through Duddingston Village to the Low Road. Much the quickest route, and relatively quiet, which was a surprise.

Loads of kids at POP this afternoon, which was good to see. My son was very impressed that children were making the first speeches, and was craning to listen in. I thought it was a very good idea to create a platform for children to engage with the campaign in this way.

Oh my son also noticed lots of grown ups with cameras, and (without any prompting from me) went straight onto YonTube as soon as we got home to see if any footage had been uploaded...
