World class cycling city.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

World class cycling city.
It was shut only last month for Red Bull Hill Chasers... a cycling race! :>
True. (I wasn't in town - was it 'all day' too?)
Major bus route too!
Chris Hoy has moved to motor sport though.
I'm afraid it's likely to be very popular :-(
"It's great to see sheikhs, oligarchs and royalty hanging out with artists, musicians, sports and film stars, skaters, fashion designers, heads of industry, and taste makers. It's just about the most eccentric mix of people you could imagine, all driving everything from Bugattis to Rolls-Royces and vintage cars."
:-/
Venn diagram overlap between PoP and Gumball? Nil?
I don't think we should be too up in arms about the closure, especially with the fact it was closed for Hill Chasers. Yes, it's a bunch of rich Hooray Henrys and Henriettas taking over part of the city for an air-polluting jolly boys and girls outing, but they won't be here too long. Hotel bars and nightclubs will probably rake it in, "good for the local economy" as the council will tell us.
We could always all go along on bikes with signs saying, "Cost less, pollutes less, more fun!" ;-)
They're probably paying CEC handsomely for the 'privilege' ...
... which, incidentally, is why there is/are no SKY Ride(s) in Edinburgh this year - SKY wouldn't pay and CEC wouldn't support them. No big Holyrood SKY Ride, no weekly SKY Leader-led rides.
"They're probably paying CEC handsomely for the 'privilege' ..."
I suspect not.
CEC was willing to pay for the TdeF to roll up.
Yorkshire offered more/better.
It's about 'economic benefit' - numbers of people attracted and what they (might) spend.
And this one is stressing its charitable purpose...

Really? Thought Holyrood Park was owned by Scottish ministers (run by Historic Scotland) rather than the Council.
"Thought Holyrood Park was owned by Scottish ministers (run by Historic Scotland) rather than the Council."
Yes, but (for whatever reason) CEC was expected to pay.
I think in previous years Sky wanted to come to Edinburgh enough to pay for the event.
CEC wasn't keen enough to let it use its own roads - except for a bit of DRW.
Other LAs are more accommodating/welcoming!
Holyrood is a 'royal' park. It belongs to her Britannic Maj.
'We' shouldn't be up in arms about this at all. I resent the inference that if you ride a bike then you should be opposed to this event.
" 'We' shouldn't be up in arms about this at all. "
It's just odd that shutting The Mound all day for this (and the Red Bull) is 'easier' than stopping traffic on the Royal Mile for half an hour or so for PoP.
I hope next year the PoPers can have one meeting with CEC - to agree the date!
Sounds like fun.
... Plus, it's not every week Edinburgh gets to play host to someone who co-starred in a big movie like "Barbershop 2: Back In Business".
