I'm looking for advice on buying a cargo trailer. This would just be for shorter hops about town, shopping, hauling to the allotment, possibly a few longer, gentle excursions with the family.

We'd prefer a two wheeled design that we could also pull short distances by hand. This alone pretty much leads me to the 'Croozer Cargo' so if anyone has any specific comments on this model that would be particularly helpful.

Lastly, if anyone has anything for sale, please let me know.

    Thanks.

    How about the Carry Freedom?

You can get a walking handle for it, and it's a great trailer and certain local bike shops can supply you it and will even put the wheels on it for you and show you how the hitch works!

    It's a wee bit more expensive (~£40) but for same basic size of trailer you will get;

A product that folds away flat
    3 x load capacity (90 vs. 30kg)
A trailer that weighs 3kg less

Quite a few happy owner/operators on this forum. Myself included.

Carry Freedom or Radical trailers are your best bet. Either will serve you well for years.

The Radical Cyclone is sort of a posh touring trailer but now comes in a cargo variant, and you can place the wheels to the rear if towing by hand. The Carry Freedom is probably more suited to 'workhorse' activities and has a much higher load capacity.

Aye, Carry Freedom Y-Frame. I have the small one, which fits through doors loaded. There's also a large version, which doesn't. But carries more.

Very well designed. Easy to stash when not in use. I'd advise getting a plastic crate or a big holdall or similar for taking certain loads in: stops them shifting and potentially rubbing against the tyres.

I also have a self-built "Bamboo trailer" (made of wood) from a design by the guy who designed the Carry Freedom, with the same hitch. That's my large trailer.

Also have a Winther Donkey, which is a shopping-trolley type design. It's great but you notice it a lot more on the back of the bike than the CF and the hitch weighs quite a bit.

I have the large Carry Freedom Y-Frame, and it doesn't seem particularly oversized after you become accustomed to it. A quality product, for sure.

Probably not a bad occasion to think about a 2nd CCE PY load-carrying meetup event thing.

I could bring the Winther for a change. Handy for picking up groceries at the Sinsberries nearby.

Thanks for all the feedback, and if there is a trailer-moot then it would be great to see/try before I buy.

I'd looked at the 'Y' and got quite excited when I saw a picture on their website of one carrying a kayak, though it turns out my boat is 10cm wider than the maximum load so not such a big deal.

Now I know they do a carrying handle (thanks kaputnick) it is very much back on the shortlist. The handle is another 40 quid though, so it is at the expensive end of the list.

I'd been put off the cyclone by the bag, but more digging reveals there is a bare bones version that I could fit my own box/deck to, so it might be worth another look, though the budget might not stretch.
