We could be interested and show up to boost numbers, mass rides are always a good experience for the young ones. Please PM me closer to the event to remind me (even though I added it to my life organiser) as I may well forget and I don't get on here as often as I used to...

Hi,
I think I can come that day with the helios (will check calendar). Can certainly take some flyers to Roseburn School.

Is there anything for thr younger ones to do? I imagine if I bought one or two of my family along, they'd get bored after 2 minutes and want to run off to the park in the meadows.
Posted 10 years ago # -
Yes, there's going to be stuff for them - not to mention kids to play with. It'll be in the school playground - nice safe area for them to play in.
Kids don't get bored that easily do they? should be lots of cool stuff to watch and participate in. bring their bikes!

"nice safe area for them to play in"
Including
climbingtraversing wall.Posted 10 years ago # -
Traversing wall!? They'll love that, though I may have to stop them trying to reach the top!

"may have to stop them trying to reach the top!"
isn't that the whole point?
(if its at all like the one planned for b'field, it's not actually all that high anyway...)

Will try and get across...

We have a poster now for anyone who wants to help spread the word http://womenscycleforum.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/a4-bike-workshop-posterweb1.pdf

Anyone want some pre-printed posters for putting up at schools or nurseries or handing to friends?
I can also provide some laminated ones in a few days.

To add to the fun, there will also (probably) be unicycle training... now there's a practical bike for families
Posted 10 years ago # -
I've several times seen a small lass (P3ish) near Causewayside riding to school on a unicycle. I've no idea who she is, but think she's awesome. Hannah

On a related note, VoxPopUK is running a Nationwide Family Cycling survey. There's a prize of a child's bike from Frog Bikes.

thanks arellcat!
there's a q. 'what keeps your child from cycling more'. I left it out because honestly they couldn't cycle much more, but was forced to complete it in order to submit!
decided on 'fear of roads' because there are some trips we take by bus because the roads aren't very suitable

This is fast approaching so I thought I'd summarise where we are so far with 'funny looking bikes':
SRD with tandem, trailer, hamax seat, copilot limo seat
Possibly Wingpig with occupied double trailer
chrisfl with weeride and rear seat and possibly dutch bike with Yepp seats
acsimpson with wicker child seat
weezee with Urban Arrow (also Dave Gardner may bring the Laidback one
Daisydaisy with heliosSome questions:
1) are you all still coming?
2) are you happy to act as official 'demonstrators', ie. giving people goes, talking about costs, pros and cons etc? (there is insurance)
3) if so, can you pm me your email address?
4)anyone got a tagalong, as that seems to be the option we're missing?Posted 10 years ago # -
I'll have a CoPilot Taxi too. Should someone bring an additional inanimate 15kg mass so that people can practise without a live child?
Posted 10 years ago # -
Sally - I can't be there in person but happy to lend my tag-a-long and trailgator (+kids bike) to the event.
They both work off the same towing bike though (which I can also lend) so would need some changing over.
Obviously, it would be better if you got a live person with experience to be able to talk about using them, but a reasonable back up if you want.

@hankchief - cool, anyone want to volunteer to pilot these?
@wingpig - that might be a good idea. A bag of sand maybe?
I seem to remember Uberuce volunteered to turn up in a onesie ...

Our hamax seat is unlikely to be there until fairly late. Can anyone else provide one?
We do have a tagalong, but it's nearly non-functional (this is the problem with tagalongs).

Do you need any balance bikes? We're undecided as to whether to try and sell ours on the 7th, or keep it for people to try on the 14th.
We actually have two balance bikes, if anyone here is interested - a wooden one with Elmo (need seat re-attached) and a more bikey multi coloured aluminum one. Feel free to make an offer. (The link is to this years model, ours is solid purple/green)
Posted 10 years ago # -
SRD - yes please to the balance bikes, unless you're likely to lose a good sale otherwise. I'm sure nobody would object if they had 'for sale' signs on them either...
Posted 10 years ago # -
Well, if anyone wants to offer to help us re-attach Elmo's seat....

I'll have to retreat to being tentative, but if I can make it, I'll put on my Demonstrator Hat, which I've worn a coupla times with LaidBack's wares at the airshows.
I'm free most weekday evening, SRD, if you want an extra pair of hands and need specific tools(assuming I own them).

Don't worry about balance bikes, school has LOTS.
Posted 10 years ago # -
great. i wasn't sure to what extent the balance bikes would be available.
Posted 10 years ago # -
ps - uberuce - could i get you to pop up some posters at craiglockhart and south morningside?
Posted 10 years ago # -
Can certainly try, and if rebuffed will enquire about electronic means.
Posted 10 years ago # -
@SRD I could put some up at work?
Posted 10 years ago # -
please!
shall i leave some at laidback's for you?
was going to laminate some for uberuce to attach to school railings
