Looked to work pretty well for dispersals. Scotrail meeting tomorrow, so any feedback/good pictures of bikes going on to trains home (or even to these events).

Belles on Bikes reported most of passengers on morning train to Dunbar had bikes, guessed at around 20.

I cheated (skinflint style) and got Citylink coach back to Glasgow - free with my granny pass!

I think someone caught the 102 back to Moffat (also a coach operated service)

I took my Brompton on the 14:35 train to Perth after PoP, which was fine.

...but taking a Brompton probably counts as 'cheating'.

My journey ended at Dunkeld, and it really is a BIG step down onto the platform there. I wouldn't want to do it with a proper bike.

    Hi Tulyar,

Yes the Belles took five bikes on the train and there were considerably more than that in total. We were so pleased that the conductor let all the bikes on!

Going home from Dunbar was more of an issue. Only Xcountry options for the last few trains but thankfully nobody had booked so I could get my solo bike on no problem. A group would have been an issue. Some of the other girls took a Scotrail back from North Berwick and all was fine.

Here is a snap of the bikes on route to JM Fest from one of the other Belles: http://instagram.com/p/nC9n30MQ-3/

Great photo - makes the case that when a group is organised you can easily pack 5 bikes in space officially for 2.

Worth remembering which Cross Country services use HST's - but Voyagers can often fit in 6-7 in coach D using space under that big parcels shelf.

Discussed Commonwealth Games at meeting, plus yet more trains on yet more routes, with yet more bike carriage options.

2014 Games will not have any special cycle restrictions applied

Note that for electric trains with no dedicated bike space Scotrail policy is use door vestibules on opposite side to platform - that generally means 4 bikes per carriage (with 60-70 seats).

From next week's timetable change - 6 trains per weekday to Oban (& 6 trains back), through trains Edinburgh-Ayr every 2 hours (reversing at Glasgow Central - so slower than fastest services) 5 trains per hour departing Cumbernauld now has 3 electric trains 1 to Motherwell 2 to Dalmuir (reversing at Springburn), and various other bits.

Whifflet line has some electrification stuff in place but not ready for big switch this change. Electric trains may appear, but running to diesel timetables.

Stirling gets bike hire - same system as Glasgow - potential for employers to sign up and use as staff pool bikes.

Dunblane has some 'access to station' work being developed - suggested a look at the skew bridge, North of station which gives neat link from Doune Road to Southbound trains without slog up over bridge from Tesco/station car park.

Discussion on plans for Haymarket cycle parking that Sustrans has done work on. Land being transferred from Railway (and Scotrail lease) - to CEC(?). Anyone seen the plans?

On way back from meeting - noted the connection via Ardrossan to seasonal Campbeltown ferry service - an alternative to going via Rest & be Thankful and a bit faster.

Also raised question on how many Class 158 trains (the rather tatty silver ones that were transferred from Arriva Trains Wales) still had those awful cupboards, and whether we might press for a scheme to get them converted to match the rest of the fleet.

Quick poll - which routes have class 158? I think the wires to Cumbernauld will release some trains (ready for Borders?).
