CEC delivers compost (made out of our brown bins) to residents free of charge once a year. (Apparently other times you can buy it - this is more of a publicity event) They take a stack to a location in each NP. Last year the SW one was Boroughmuir (or maybe it was south, not sure). This year it's JuNiper Green. (South is Sciennes but technically you're supposed to live in that NP).
I've spent the morning corresponding with the relevant waste services person to try and get something closer to home for me (and other Merchiston community council members). One of our members suggested a delivery spot at Harrison park (near north Merchiston club). I volunteered to deliver by bike to residents - problem is that you're only allowed one bag. So we'd need to sort some system - not impossible, if council allows it. Anyone else want to volunteer for similar, either in SW or elsewhere?
Council emphasises that it is basically a publicity event; not sure they actually want massive demand, so they may not play ball. I suppose one way would be to say to people 'pitch up, grab your bag, give me your address, and I'll drop it off for you'.
Figure it might build some goodwill for cyclists? Nice pic of a few trailers/cargo bikes heading out?
