Bradley Wiggins could switch his focus to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow if he does not race the Tour de France, according to British Cycling’s technical director, Shane Sutton.

Bradley Wiggins reclaimed his British national time trial title in Newport with a masterful performance on a tricky circuit in difficult conditions, relegating Geraint Thomas to second and defending champion Alex Dowsett to third. Is Brad back?

7yo asked today if wiggo was going to TdF - I had warned her it was unlikely.

Floods of tears ensued. She wants to boycott. I'm trying to convince her to at least watch the first few stages, with Cav hopefully doing well.

Her watching is pretty people centred, but she was critiquing everyone's style ( no one compares to wiggo) in the championships today, so maybe there's hope.

The writing's probably on the wall for Bradley Wiggins and Sky, much in the same way as the 2012 Tour put paid to Mark Cavendish's time there. It's a great pity as he definitely made Sky (and cycling) popular with Joe Public (and sold a fair few jerseys for Rapha...).

I have sympathy for Wiggins, having gone from TdF champion to nowt in just two years. Surely he must be making enquiries as to other opportunities. Sky have allowed a rather unpleasant squabble between Froome and Wiggins play out in public, rather than Dave B stepping in and knocking heads together, reminding everyone that he's the Principal and picks the team (oh and ensures they get a shot at a nice bonus...).

At the end of the day, they don't all have to love each other or be Godparents to each other's kids. They're well-paid professionals who need to follow team orders.

That's certainly how it seems from the 'outside'.

If true, seems 'out of character' for Sky/Brailsford.

If something else is actually going on, it would be in everyone's interest to explain!

But apparently Simon Yates has been selected for Orica. I know who I'll be cheering on now :)

"David Millar is to join ITV’s coverage of the 2014 Tour de France, which begins on Saturday in Yorkshire."

"David is the only British rider to have worn all the Tour de France jerseys"

2To mark the start of this year's Tour de France in Yorkshire, Guardian cycling correspondent William Fotheringham rode the most scenic section of the first stage with Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy. The route wends through the Yorkshire Dales National Park, through Wensleydale and up over the Buttertubs Pass, one of two King Of The Mountains climbs the race will tackle on the first day. Chris Hoy talks about the challenges for the racers, and his own cycling career"
