Don't think there is anything new here -

    "

MORE than £1.2 million will be ploughed into the Capital’s cycling infrastructure this year as plans are developed for a bike corridor cutting through the heart of the city.

    "

I won't be reading the comments.

I will be pointing out to Mr O'leary that I was misquoted.

I said that 'incorrect tactiles' were dreadful for cyclists, not tactiles on their own.

I think he misquoted you correctly then!

(In a cycling/chicanes context at least.)

SRD - I'd ask for an immediate correction of your quote, with an acknowledgment of their error. There's no excuse for them not to in an online format.

"There's no excuse for them not to in an online format."

Except that EN online just tends to mirror the paper version.

    It's not the New Statesman...

    ... inaudible mumble ...

  6. Just post a reply in the comments. If you wait for the EEN to correct their nonsense you'll be waiting for a long time!

@SRD they did make it sound like you want to remove facilities for blind people. I doubt this was what you said/meant.

I did not say that and have been on the phone asking them to correct it.

update: just been told they're fixing it.

"update: just been told they're fixing it."

A few of the comments picked up on the misquote and are basically saying that you hate all blind people. Do you think the EEN would remove those comments too?

“Take for instance the type of tactile surfacing introduced by the council in the Meadows recently, or the introduction of chicanes which only create conflict between cyclists and walkers.”

Better, but I'm guessing it's still a misquote. The comments are still there but now don't appear to make much sense.

the fix isn't much better. but the point is obviously too subtle to convey in a newspaper.

will have to resort to only giving written replies to journos

In my limited experience, journalists do this all the time. I now think that they (subconsciously presumably) believe that you said (or meant) what they wrote rather than what you actually said. I mean, in the past I have been misquoted from an e-mail reply! As Americans say, go figure...

I really shouldn't have claimed expertise in signage etc - that's you guys more than me. But was trying hard to write in the first person....

    Yeah good!

    Hope you weren't misquoted...

"Edinburgh’s new cycle-funding is a win-win scenario, not just for “cyclists”, but it needs to be well-implemented to bring real benefits for all."

Except perhaps people who comment on EN stories (haven't looked!)

    "Well implemented" -
