    It's a secret.

I think there are also rare instances of people sneakingly changing text colour, which fortunately never caught on.

The clue is in the mysterious text
Allowed markup: BBcode a blockquote code em strong ul ol li img font strike center u hr.
    Put code in between backticks.

but I don't know how to make it work.

I shall therefore be able to post an excerpt of the clip I took this morning under the Rubbish Cycling thread.

That's 'better' - not exactly two way cycling width(?)

Can't work out whether I 'missed' the lane (definitely had the white blocks in the way) or whether they have moved the 'hedge'(?)

Completely missed that 'detour' heading Westbound last night! Ended up dismounting and walking past the AR.

    @CyclingEdin @CityCentreLeith @EssentialEdin @adamrmcvey fully operational 1st September

Festival finishes on 31st, but Fringe ends 25th - so plenty of time to clear the road in front of AR.

Have been off topic for a bit, so you all have to stop the nonsense, be patient and wait till the Geo St cycle routes become 'legally' available for use (September)! You are all basically trespassing on a construction site, incomplete infrastructure works, unfinished traffic sigs, a Festival 'venue', a licensed venue, ignoring legal ROAD ClOSED signage, and using a route that is not finished and has not yet been signed off on its safety audit etc.
Calm down, the lot of ye! ;o]

    Fine.

Then CEC needs to send out a new press release.

    "

The new cycle lane, which will be complete by the end of July, is currently under construction and will be open for use by cyclists in time for the Fringe.

If a ROAD CLOSED sign attached to a piece of fence has been moved out of the cycle path, turned away from the direction in which it purports to apply and obscured by two more bits of fence, does it still make a sound?

"does it still make a sound?"

No because it's hiding as it doesn't want to be put back to face the wrath of taxis, delivery trucks and bicycles.

(At least the latter are polite enough to leave it alone and just go round it.)

Obviously this sign is wrong too -

  18. Cycled west to east on Monday rush-hour to avoid PS and wished I hadn't bothered. Very unimpressed.

@chdot: You are absolutely right on all counts above! In a large org like the Cooncil, it is highly unlikely that the 'blogscribbler' has been given full and accurate info, as they are just trying to score Brownie points by damage limitation of the reputation! The peeps who really know what the timetable is usually have the work instruction in their pocket, and are at the coalface trying to deliver the job! The 'welcome' signs will have been fitted as soon as they became available from the signmakers. It doesnae help if Essential Edinburgh are also muddying the waters! It is always said that women, children, bairns and bosses should never see a job half done! Roll on September! 'nuff said!

I came along part of it tonight on my galvanised Paper Bicycle - (!)

Was quite continental on short stretch from St Andrew Square to Hanover St. Felt that there was hope that it might be ok once it's up and running. Maybe I'm too optimistic but city is changing...

Needs a CCE forum inspection ride once the pavement cafes have been rolled up and the chill winds of Autumn arrive..

I meant to say when it last appeared in a thread a day or two ago, that galvanised Paper Bicycle looks pretty good.

When was it installed, compared to the.original Argyle Place unreachable button?

    "When was it installed"

Don't know. Photo was taken about 9 years ago (on film - I've been digital ever since). Think it existed for a couple of years. It might have been useful at 'rush' hour, but normally it was just a right turn which didn't need you to stop to press the button. Obviously a detector loop would have been more useful.

"compared to the.original Argyle Place unreachable button?"

    Wasn't that 'just' for pedestrians?

The button, but not the crossing, unless you mean before it went Toucan.

Due to the wind and/or inebriates and/or revellers, the beer-advert barriers between the planters where the path protrudes around the Assembly Room's Festival Compromise area have become unscrewed from their bases and are protruding into both the road and the path. I fixed a couple on my way past this morning; the Assembly staff fiddling with identical barriers inside the corral didn't seem interested so if anyone is passing, have a quick check to see if they're in anyone's way.

Yesterday, in the early evening I was followed down the westernmost section by a brand new kind of bike. It was white, much bigger than a normal bike, not quiet - made a loud rumbling sound, must've had 80 seats in it.

Hmm. Looks as though this scheme may not be as 'temporary' as the Council is making out...
