Just used up the last of my Ecover handcleaner while trying to patch a puncture that developed while we were away.

Anyone have anything to recommend that is particularly good for the grease/grime combo of bike tyres?

The Ecover is pretty good for general grot, but doesn't seem to quite get all the grease off.

Deb do a natural version of Swarfega which meets EU biodegradability requirements. I've used it on and off for years and it seems to work as well as the green kind.

The green kind meets the biodegradability rules too. I like the versions with gritty bits in them but any Swarfega seems to work. The memsahib even used it for cleaning the monoblock when the car had a leaky rocker cover.

@SRD - is ecover kinder to the environment because it just has less cleaning agents in it? Thus less good at cleaning? If I drill a tiny hole in the lid of the washing up liquid bottle and keep the lid shut this dispenses small but sufficient amount. I also go with White Spirit, also love Swarfega. THese products cannot be good for environment.

Soap from a little pump-action bottle, warm water, and a stiff nailbrush. That'll get your hands clean after an evening of tyre wrangling. Follow up with E45.

A certain local bicycle empire currently (as of Saturday, anyway) has sale-priced bottles of Finish Line degreaser, the powerful one that smells not entirely unlike petrol, rather than citrus oils.
