My parents had this through their door and passed it on:

The public showing is in the past, but despite the absence of a proper view-the-plans link on the flyer (or on Pedal-Porty's mention of it) the internet does have some stuff including a comments submission form via Porty CC.

Haven't had a chance to poke at the detail fully yet but my first concern would be construction vehicles/fences constricting/restricting access to the toucan across Harry Lauder to Fishwifeses Causeway.

    (my Porty CC hat on)

This application is at the PAN stage, it's not yet a full planning application, hence the lack of full plans etc. Any feedback received by the developers is included in a reported submitted to the planning department, and hopefully informs the planning app.

All the detail released so far is at http://www.portobellocc.org/Consultations/BaileyfieldPAN/Baileyfield%20Development%20Exhibition%20180614.pdf

Portobello Community are helping to feed questions and comments to the developers; see http://www.portobellocc.org/Consultations/BaileyfieldPAN/

winpig - I think the existing housing on Baileyfield road will remain untouched so hopefully there won't be too much disruption at the crossing. The Porty side of Fishwives might get a bit messy though.

I'd like to see a decent cycle path, either through or along the southern edge of the development, linking the Harry Lauder Crossing with the Prom via Westbank Street. This could either use the existing lights at the end of fishwives or a new crossing further north. Getting the developer to build this as part of the deal seems fair.

A design which left the option to link through the industrial estate to the back end of Rosefeild park would be good too.

With all that high density housing, car traffic will inevitably increase on that stretch of Fishwives' Causeway, and on-street/double parking could become an issue too.

Yes it may be useful to see a cycle path/lane but the main thing will be to limit traffic in some way. Probably the density of housing needs to be reduced still further...

Noticed this development going up. Looking at the plans here:

    http://www.portobellocc.org/pccpn/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/15_04234_AMC-DESIGN_AND_ACCESS_STATEMENT_SECTION_1-3187224.pdf

It looks like most of the parking for flats along the southern edge of the site will be on street. I'm expecting Fishwives' Causeway will start to feel fairly claustrophobic.

Interestingly one of the mock images shows a cyclist on the pavement so maybe it'll be shared use?

I pass this way pretty frequently. Not really looking forward to the inevitable increases in motor traffic on what is still currently a fairly quiet route. Note that the industrial estate opposite seems to be in the process of being redeveloped and/or sold off. I assume more housing will built there too.

I use the Aldi regularly too. On the plus side, decent bike parking; On the minus side no drop kerb or easy way to get to the bike parking without stopping on a busy road to haul bike over very chunky kerb, or crossing side entrance to Kwik Fit.

    http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/download/downloads/id/2249/10_07_21_-_baileyfield_masterplan_-_pre_meeting_paperspdf.pdf

This is from 2008 but has some interesting details, e.g.

"Some parking should be provided on street, without dominating the street with cars or compromising pedestrian safety.
Shared space principles to be adopted and low design speeds used."

"Focus on choice of pedestrian activity
    Minimise car dominance
Street surface design and shared space principles"

It looks like the plans for a park surrounding Fishwives' Causeway were scrapped, though interestingly this article from Sept 2016 still has it marked as a pedestrian link:

    http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/500-new-homes-planned-for-portobello-site-1-4224538

The section beyond Portobello High Street is a new path along Figgate Burn, presumably a separate council project?

While this is a bit more encouraging, I can't find any detail on what the road will look like. Maybe that is down to separate council plans too?

EDIT - plans for the other side http://www.portobellocc.org/pccpn/2016/09/06/baileyfield-south-masterplan-for-500-homes/

That latest plan is worrying. Where the 2008 plans showed the cycle route along Fishwives' Causeway, this one has it marked as a secondary vehicle route. It also shows a cycle route to the southern edge of the site using the existing stepped foot bridge and, somehow, Figgate Burn.
