I usually avoid this unless I am up really early as it is too busy with pedestrians and it can at times be very difficult to maintain a 2m distance.

Quite nice very early in the Morning when the nightclubs have finally closed and the bars are Being cleaned for the breakfast squad, reminds me of Ibiza

On it twice today, but managed to be there a while after the school run, which helped. Most of the 'mad' cyclists were under 8, hard to be angry at anything that cute.

Facebook is a delight when cycling on the prom pops up. Everyone is against bikes on the prom and says cyclists should use the road. When anyone points out the roads are not safe (and mentions that someone was killed not long ago), they're shouted down pretty quickly. Also, suggesting closing off the High Street to cars and allowing only buses and bikes sends them into conniptions.

Is the prom part of the John Muir Way?

No - JMW goes along Brunstane/Innocent paths from Joppa.

Noticed that the wall on Pipe Lane/Pipe Street is being shortened. I believe it’s being replaced with bollards and dropped kerbs so that you can cycle through - might be a useful improvement for some!

Excellent. I usually go to Bridge St rather than hop up kerbs and balance through 90° turns at slower-than-walking pace.

It's part of a bigger scheme to improve the route between Portobello Road, Fishwives Causeway, The High Street and the prom, primarily to provide a safer alternative to routes using the King's Road junction.

Some physical changes like this, improved signage, road markings, shorter wait and longer crossing time on the SHL crossing.

It's far from perfect, a bit patchy and there are still issues with parts of the route, but given the constraints (time/money/TROs) the council officer was under it's not a bad effort. They did not lack enthusiasm or commitment.

@Gembo - we are one and the same, no need for a II

People I know are now being prompted by Facebook to add Kermit Wanglebender as a friend. They seem to like him
