Once again the implication is that the bike hit the bus, which may or may not be true.

Princes Street and its environs have seen 2 pedestrians killed (1 by bus, 1 by taxi) and now a bus landing a cyclist in hospital in space of a few months.
Macabre slow-clap for Edinburgh Council for designing such a dangerous environment for people.

They have now changed the wording from cyclist threw themselves under bus:-
TRAFFIC was delayed in and around Princes Street this morning when a cyclist was injured after being caught in tram tracks.
The accident happened at the junction of Castle Street shortly after 8am.
The injured cyclist was treated at the scene before being taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
Bus services on some routes were delayed by up to 40 minutes until the carriageways were cleared.

I can only repeat my question; What attitude would the Evening News take if any part of the tram apparatus caused cars to overturn and their drivers to be hospitalised?

Gosh. I hope they recover soon.

"Council causes horrific accident. Cyclists toast and eat baby in flames of wreckage."

Princes Street closed by accident"

Another one - yesterday (pedestrian).

Notwithstanding the seriousness of the incident, the headline does prompt me to think to myself "It wasn't closed by accident, it was closed on purpose".
The only time I can think of in recent years of a road really being closed by accident was in the summer of 2012 when an unexpectedly large number of bicycles closed the Royal Mile to other traffic without really meaning to.

All crashes or other incidents relating to tramlines should be reported to City of Edinburgh Council, who are keeping a record and using this to try and identify problems which need addressed.

What is required is some sort of rubber like substance to fill in the tram line that will not give under 125kg of bike and rider but will under a ton or more of tram wheel.
Anyone up to the design challenge?

It already exists:
http://www.streetfilms.org/cyclists-vs-rails-in-zurich/Apparently after everyone had taken their slice of the £776m there wasn't enough left to buy a little bit of rubber.
http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=10912#post-121802It's also prone to failure if not maintained.
