Reasonably interesting doc on BBC1 last night with Chris Hoy speaking to various gold medal winners about what it takes to win (Obree, Rebecca Adlington, Lennox Lewis, Andy Murray...)

The best bit was the sequence with Hoy and Steve Redgrave rowing along the canal. There would have been a few double-takes from people on the towpath and it would have made for a unique "spot"!

From my history of participation in athletic events (many years of fat jogging and one year as a very ordinary club level runner) I suspect that I wouldn't really understand anything these people had to say about winning.

It would be like asking Niels Bohr about quantum mechanics. He would assume talent and knowledge that you didn't even think existed. One thing I did learn was that in order to train properly you have to be very selfish and not be too concerned about what others think of you. I'm not at all sure it was worth it.

Really cool to see them rowing on the canal. (I wish I'd been there in person, I could have shouted, "Show us your medals".)

And, of course, the Obree section was good to see.

I think I'm spectacularly failing to use iPlayer properly, because I can't find any evidence of this programme?

Just found it on the Android version, which doesn't provide a Share option. I just searched for "Hoy" and it was the top result. Not visible under either Sport or Documentary categories in the category view.

Thanks, didn't spot the search box. In the interim period, I have discovered it is on the telly again @ 23:45 on Tuesday.
