Pah. I was thinking of going to the Cycle Show in October and had hoped I could ride to it.

I'd imagine the docking stations near Earls Court will fill up pretty quickly when the Cycle Show's on... Which will mean a lot of frustrated cyclists fanning out to find an empty one.

That was the one downside we found with Velib in Paris - you have to go against the flow sometimes. For instance, we were staying near the Sorbonne and wanted to head over to the Marais for lunch on a Sunday. Unfortunately, so did every student in the vicinity. It took us three or four docking stations to find enough bikes for the four of us to cycle, then when we got to the Marais all the docking stations were full. We ended up cycling well away from the area to drop the bikes and get the Metro somewhere else.

  4. I had that happen once in Paris, but fortunately it was just one full docking station. The electronic map thing at the terminals was good for spotting space, but sometimes you had to be quick!

I would have thought use by tourists was one of the main factors behind this scheme - really odd that they didn't have that set up as a possibility right from the start. May train it down with my own bike...
